Southwest has not yet announced when, or if, the two carriers will combine their programs.

As for elite status, current AirTran elite members get complimentary A-list on Southwest.

If you did not receive a welcome packet with an A-list card, you will have to contact customer service.

You get A-List status on Southwest, which is borderline worthless compared to what we currently get with Airtran Elite.

Agree. I've been Airtran Elite for a few years and I've done a few Southwest flights since we got A-List status.

I was A26 and A28 on a recent roundtrip from MCO to New Orleans.

And because Southwest flights are like a bus, you can be an even better A and get a bad seat because eve if you're the first one of the plane, there can be people on their passing through who moved to all the good seats.

Furthermore, as a frequent flyer, I would do really short connections because I never check bags and I can hustle through airports. Even if you have a good A position, a short connection on Southwest means you have an awful seat because being the last one on board means a middle seat.

Sorry Giants fans, But in the Southwest world, you cannot spell ELITE without LITE.
