Travel Health and Fitness - Suggestions for a heart rate monitor

I would like to get one of these for aerobic (and other) workouts. Not in a big hurry, still adapting to my Fitbit, but would like to start learning about these devices. In particular I want one that I can wear on my wrist and that will upload data to a Mac so that I can keep track of the workouts. An iPhone app would be nice as would being able to directly upload to an iPhone or Android but that isnt as important as being to upload and and store it to a computer or web site. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

I would be interested in this as well.

Glad to hear you are enjoying your Fitbit, I love mine.

I have a heart rate monitor but it is one of the cheap ones and doesn't store my data anywhere.

I know the Adidas miCoach app has heart rate capabilities and I think the Nike+ app does too. I haven't looked in to how a better heart rate monitor could integrate with those apps though.

I think some of the mid-range Polar heart rate monitors allow for uploading your heart rate data to their website at a minimum; if it can do that surely there is a way to integrate it with iPhone fitness apps.

The one I use comes with the Forerunner GPS watch that I use... not sure about standalone HRMs. But if you want a GPS solution Forerunner is good.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I dont want to pay for a GPS one at this point. I can use my phone (Runkeeper app) instead and I expect a lot of what I will be doing will be treadmill time. Any other suggestions from people? I think I have it narrowed down to:

Polar FT7 - watch based
Wahoo - iPhone dongle based
Polar BT - Android based display

The latter two directly interact with Runkeeper.

Thanks.

I ordered the Polar FT7 last night. I considered the FT40 and FT60 but since I am just starting out got the cheapest that has my minimum set of requirements.

Typo fixed, Deal dead.

--------------------------------

Just took the plunge on a Polar FT40M (http://www.amazon.com/Polar-Heart-Monitor-Watch-Black/dp/B0035XR43U/ref=sr_1_2?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1367097479&sr=1-2&keywords=POLAR+FT40M). Available at newegg (via 17th Street Photo) for $44.89 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1J20NA7968&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleMKP&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleMKP-_-pla-_-Fitness+Accessories-_-9SIA1J20NA7968). (!?)

Not sure what the deal is, but worth a try at this price. Checked the 17th Steet Photo site and it is $108.89. Probably a mistake at $44.89. Includes the transmitter with replaceable batteries which will interface with most workout machies....it alone is worth this much.

We have a Polar; however, its probably 10 years old. Hooks into our Precor treadmill that doesn't get used very much. Love to find two (one for wife and I) to use while on vacation/hiking etc.

I did get the FT7 and the accessory docking station for transfer to their server. I have been very happy with the choice.

try this dcrainmaker.com if you are going the direction of the RCX3 GPS I actually recommend the RCX5 +GPS (G5) the GPS is external but I dont have to charge the watch, just the GPS (once a week)
