Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles - Hand baggage enforcement

I've done a search of this forum and haven't seen anything recent. How strict is TK with hand baggage? Its website says (for economy) 1 piece max 8kg and it will be tagged. Are the bags weighed? Is it likely that a laptop bag will be allowed as well?
Thanks in advance for replies.

Usually they are fairly generous which can be bothersome if you are traveling in Y.

The answers to your questions about TK enforcement of carry on bags are in this thread
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/turkish-airlines-miles-smiles/1299566-comfort-class-one-carry-plus-one-personal-bag.html
Basically, no enforcement on single carry on bag plus a personal bag. Biz class allows two carry on bags, as I recall from TK luggage policy.

they weigh the carry ons when they weigh the checked baggage. But when you get on the actual plane they dont really check for the tags on your carry on. So realistically you could just not weigh your carry on and then just carry it onto the plane and they wouldn't know the difference.
When getting my carry on out of the overhead bin mid flight i had to move some other people's bags and there is NO WAY that some of the other bags i had to shift around weighed less than the 8kg limit.

*S isn't worth much with TK,sorry to say.
If your hand baggage hasn't more than 10 kg,you shouldn't have a problem.
Which class you are going to fly ?

Was in J with 2 trollies + Laptop bag several times,no problems at all.
The only real problem. If you are flying 737 / A 320 it can be pita to find space for your luggage when boarding late, even in J.

So I report back from last night when I travelled on a 737-800. In row 27. The check-in people asked to see your hand luggage, and weighed trolley bags (but not small backpacks) but people travelling hand-luggage only of course didn't see the agent.
My colleague's bag was over 8kg but he was allowed to carry it anyway. Then when I got on board there was nowhere near enough room because the limits weren't enforced at all. I was lucky to be able to get space (there is of course no room on the port side at the back rows due to the AV equipment) but several people had to have their bags gate-checked.

Thanks for the update, stifle. I think I'll be booking a TK flight soon (in Y), so this is good to know.

Good to know, I'm flying TK tomorrow from IST-MUC. Last time I took LH and when I checked in they made me weigh my roll aboard and said it was too heavy and I had to check it. After unpacking-repacking in a rush at the counter to get needed items out, I was just lad I had a small bag to put my laptop in. Anyway, it turned out to be much easier than wheeling the roll aboard around, not sure what I will do tomorrow....

Do be clear my experiences were based on two flights out of the hundreds TK runs a day!

I'm flying TK in Business from JFK, then connecting to another flight at IST. Since it appears that Biz pax are allowed two carryons, I can probably distribute the weight sufficiently evenly so that I don't exceed the 8 kg limit for either, but I would prefer to keep the heavier items in my rollaboard. Is it likely that they will weigh my rollaboard at the JFK checkin counter? At the gate in IST?

I'll answer my own question and say they did not.
