Los Angeles - LA in August

Hi we are a family of 4 (Children 12+15) looking for some recomendations for hotels in Southern CA without breaking the bank. We enjoy seafood and will be looking at afew days in Anaheim for the attractions as well.

Our flight will arrive in Orange county where we aim to spend a day and then head to the beach or a resort for a week. Then four days in Anaheim followed by another week at a resort or beach to get further sunning.

Any suggestions on good rental companies would also be appreciated.

We need a bit more information to help you. Are your children boys or girls?
A teenage girl would be more interested in the shopping around LA, or going to entertainment industry related attractions, such as watching a TV show taping. A teenage boy would be less interested in shopping for example. Also, the 15 year old may be less interested in Disneyland and more interested in taking surfing lessons on Huntington Beach.

Hi both are Girls and love attractions so Disney and ?? is a must. Would like to find some good hotels to crash at after the chaos of the parks. Does not need to be on the beach somewhere with a good pool and good eating establishments are welcomed as a recomendation.

What is your nightly budget for the hotel? Are you looking for a suite?

We would look for a room to sleep 4 and yes a suite would be nice. Have looked at the Hilton Suites which runs about $110 so would prefer going on recomendation as have scoured through about 500 hotels so far.

Is this a first visit to Southern California for your kids?

You mentioned resorts... there are no classic beach resorts that cater to foreign tourists like in Mexico or The Caribbean. We just have hotels of varying quality and price near the ocean :) Can you clarify your expectation as it relates to your "resort" comment?

ThanksThere are a couple of nice resort hotels in Newport Beach, which has the advantage of being located near Fashion Island and South Coast Plaza, two high-end shopping malls which your daughters might enjoy. Newport Beach is about 7 minutes from SNA. There are plenty of good and interesting restaurants in the area. Laguna Beach and Balboa Island, both fun and interesting shore destinations, are both within 10 minutes or so, and its even close enough to Anaheim so that you can drive to see the mouse (about 20 minutes with no traffic), and you'll still be able to stay in comfortable and relaxing surroundings. I would definitely recommend renting a car, however. There is no usable public transportation to speak of in Orange County, unless you want to devote an enormous amount of time to waiting for and riding uncomfortable buses.
