Hi guys

My Story
7 months ago due to a family funeral had to travel from UK to my birth country Romania . 3 weeks after my arrival I found 3 kittens abandoned -at that point I approximated with the vet I took them to see them at the age of 2 to 2 and half weeks . The longs short story is this , I ended up to spend few good month in Romania to sort out some things and in all this time I keep my bugs I decided when I leave country will get them with me in UK . Luckily the quarantine rules had relaxed since first of jan this year and I can get them under PETS -Romania being one of the countries in this scheme . OK I know the amount of paper work my little bugs will need BUT - I am planning to return in UK in the first Tuesday of April this year and we yet to book the flight , Of course will be with BA world CArgo .

NOW me 'moaning '

I have contacted DEFRA , to find out what other carrier it is authorized to do flights from Romania to UK , is only for direct flight BA -no problem . Other operators are Lufthansa or Air France , but I need to reach france and from there I have to find a way to go by sea or rail ...witch will increase the amount of time my cats nI intend to do from A to Z . With me not living in the south of UK but in the north of england so I do not intend to have them on the road more then it is necessary . So the best option is Cargo with BA 2 and half hours flight from Bucharest to LHR , check in with clearance we approximate 2 to 3 hours and then we have another 3 and half hours drive . SO we will be just short around 11 hours on the road door to door.

I contacted BA world Cargo at my end in Romania for a quote . 3 kennels 30/50/35 for my 6 and half months 3 kittens .

by the phone the operator had started to give me a ruff idea of 'tickets' price then about a week later after I had insisted with several phone calls to come with a written quote he had returned.

At the phone he had mentioned that BA world Cargo will charge me per kitten 350 euro only IMPORT TAX then another 300 euro per kennel +VAT . I did quick the maths and I asked him if he thinks I am moving a CAW or a baby elephant this would be a grand price of1000 euro per cat only the flight . Then he quickly had stated but because there are 3 cats I am sure we can get a discount . So I had waited for his email for over a week .

BA world Cargo guy from romania answer with the quote for 3 kennel sizes 30/50/35 for 3 cats was 1350.eur+ TVA (24%)= 1674.00eur for the transport from Bucharest to London .apparently with in this price 1350 euro with out the VAT it is included THE IMPORT TAX PER CAT x 3 cats = 1050 euro only the import tax ...and only 300 euro looks to be acceptance fee, airport taxes, airline surcharges, handling fee, document processing fee that will equal 1350 euro for all 3 cats plus on top of that the the 24 %VAT witch it adds 324 euro on top + 1674 euro . Oh I have been told I have to pay this money in CASH EURO , on the day of our journey to UK . I will be taking the same flight with them . TO ME there are few very bizarre things

WHAT IS THIS IMPORT TAX per ANIMAL ? DID any of u have heard of something like this? My kittens will be neutered so fat chances I'll be breading them.
WHY do I have to pay for there booking flight on the day we leave country and only by cash and not card

is it me being paranoiac find something is a bit bizarre in all this ?

I also read on BA website that if we travel with animals but our final destination is not London, but Manchester we can have the pet customs done up in Manchester and we just transit London ( initial I wanted to book flights Bucharest -London -Manchester with BA for me and the cats) but after I though better I decided to have customs done in London and have my husband come with the car to pick us up) . But the chap from BAWC Bucharest office had said there is no way u can have customs in Man only in London what is going on .

I'm not sure I'd trust an airline on this one.

From http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/arriving/moving.htm:

Tax on personal items when moving to the UK
If you're moving to the UK from the European Union (EU), there is no tax and/or duty to pay on your personal belongings. If you're moving to the UK from outside the EU, you may be able to get relief from tax and duty when bringing your belongings into the UK.

Scroll down on this page, and you'll find more info on importing pets.

As for putting kittens in the cargo hold, I definitely would not do that. Can you fly w/ kittens as carry-on baggage to a point where you'd cross the channel by ferry, which arrive closer to your final destination? I know it sounds more complicated, but I think it would be safer, and probably cheaper, then sending them via BA cargo.

Found this article today on taking pets into the UK:

http://uk.travel.yahoo.com/p-promo-3362126

It describes a variety of transportation options for getting the pets to the UK.

cheers mate , I am looking now on the links , I am a bit shocked to find out from the agent who operates in romania that there is an import tax to uk , I had found out from the airport Vet there is a tax for importing live stock in romania from other countries , but to send them over to Uk she denied there is such a thing .Any how I did look in to KLM option again they have check in luggage option (will be taking the same flight with the girls in any circumstance ) is cumming cheaper , Bucharest - Amsterdam - Manchester 75 euro per kennel with just one and half hour waiting time in between Bucharest and Amsterdam . Ok i am going to check the links . Thank u very much .
