I have seat number 5A for Narita, Japan to Los Angeles for December 2012. I have seen 2 configurations of 777-300ER. One shows seats in Row 3. Is there a Row 3? I want to change my seat 5A as it is closed to the lavatory. What is another seat number that is good?

Don't. Seatguru still doesn't have the layouts for either of the "new" 77W configurations.

NRT-LAX flies the 77W with 52 Staggered business seats (https://www.ana.co.jp/wws/japan/e/asw_common/inflight/seatmap/b777_300er_1/). Row 5 - is the third row on both new configurations.

5A is a true window seat, just behind F and is in a quiet mini cabin. I've been in 5A and didn't find the lavs an issue. All true window seats are good and private and 5A being in the quiet cabin at the front of the service, is particularly nice.
One possible drawback is row 5 and row 7 D & H are the bassinet positions.

thanks Nogbad-

I will stay in 5A then. It seems like there is Row 6 and then the lavatory behind it.

So does row 6 have a window?

Seat 5A is the most sought after seat in the 300ER!

I didn't choose this seat. When I booked my U.S. Airways reward ticket, I automatically was assigned this seat. I won't be on Flight NH 6 till January 2013 but I am excited that I will have the new configuration BIZ seat.

Unfortunately, I have a 9 hour layover at Narita coming in from Bangkok on Thai Airways.

What do I do for 9 hours? I know for Asiana, they would give you a free tour or free hotel if your layover is long. But with ANA, my previous flight is with Thai Airways.

Do they offer free tours or do I just hang out at the ANA lounge and eat everything :)

Just wondering since 5A has the bassinet position, would I be re-assigned (not by choice) should a mother be with a little baby on Biz class?

Don't worry, 5A isn't a bassinet position - they are in 5D and 5H (or 7D&H).

With 9 hours, it is possible to head into Tokyo. Would take an hour max on the train each way. Or even easier, popping into Narita city, which has a few interesting things to see.

No free tours that I've heard of and, although you can get hot noodles in the ANA lounge, personally I don't think there is enough food to sustain for 9 hours. The better food in the airport is outside security - but if you are heading out, it would make more sense to head into town and get some decent food. There are quiet(ish) relaxation areas in the ANA lounges with loungers and massage chairs or alternatively there's plenty of hotel options to rest up near the airport if 9 hours is a bit much to hang out in the lounge (it certainly would be for me).

NRT has a train station in the basement and Narita city (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6400.html) is 10 minutes away by train.
Otherwise, Tokyo is 40mins on Keisei Skyliner train (2400 yen to Nippori station) or 60 mins on Narita express (3000 yen to Tokyo station). Trains are very regular and it's quick to get back through security, so you could comfortably have a few hours in the city if the mood takes you with still plenty of time to check out the lounges. It's no problem to securely store your cabin luggage in the lounge if you do go for a wander.
