Im planning a visit to New York for a few days, and wanted to get the "insider thoughts" on the BEST places to eat there!

Im looking for High End Restuarants, as well as Dinners. Bar Grills, as well as sandwich shops. Its going to be for almost a week, and I want to change it up a bit, so the more the better! I've heard nothing but great things about the food there, so I can't wait to try it out!

Cheers,

Anthony

Buy a copy of the Zagat restaurant directory and start reading.

Agreed with the above. If you know nothing about NYC dining, which appears to be the case, you need to do some reading.

If you don't want to buy the book at least get on chowhound.com and read through the forums.

The Eater 38 (http://ny.eater.com/archives/2012/01/the_38_essential_new_york_restaurants_january_12.p hp) actually is a pretty good list of places to start. This is, of course, an impossible list to put together -- the top 38 essential NYC restaurants -- as there will be no shortage of people who will chime in that they can't believe such-and-such restaurant was excluded from or included in the list. But it's at least the opinion of one group of editors.

Nice find.. I've been to a number on there and have thought they were all excellent. Everyone will have gripes with the list, as you note, (I might put ssäm bar on there instead of Noodle Bar, but whatevs), but it's definitely a good start. ^

Or buy a copy of the Michelin 2012 guide.

Wow, that's a great list. Couple places I'd replace, of course, but I don't think there's ever been a list to please everyone.

We should create our own list. I'd copy about 85% from that one. :)

I've been to 14 of the 38 and would quarrel with only 2 out of the 14 being included.

Welcome to FT, heirnow. Your question is like asking us which is the prettiest tree in Central Park. Do your own research based on what you like and then go out to dinner.

Nice list! I've heard of many of those but tried so few so now I have some places to go for 2012. Just last week we stumbled into Danji but only because I've seen it on the that block on 52nd Street when I go to the post office or vegetable tent. It was delicious! There is also a noodle soup place, Totto Ramen, a few doors down from Danji that always has a massive line spilling out onto the sidewalk no matter what the weather is outside. Also delicious, and worth it on a very cold day.
