Hilton HHonors - Award value

View Full Version : Award value

When I booked a four night award at the Hilton in Paris, the confirmation sheet initially listed a rate like 550-600 euros/night. Later on, they knocked that down to about 250 euros/night.

When I look at my honors activity, they credited me points on a total folio value of $460.71, which I think also includes phone charges of about $30.

Does this mean I could have booked the room for about $110/night? Or is the folio value some bogus number for bookkeeping purposes.

I'm not complaining, because in other hotel programs, you usually don't get any points for award stays.

My understanding is that Hilton Honors pays the property a pre-negotiated rate for your stay. The award stay appears to be at no cost to you. However, the hotel does get paid.

All of my award stays have had points post. But, I think we may be fortunate, as they are not mandated to give us room rate points.

Every now and then just for kicks take a look at the rates listed on Hilton.com for this property.
I cannot ever recall them being below 220EU
so if you see 200EU jump on it, I guarantee
you will not get a room there for 110EU, even on priceline.

Yes you were lucky to get points for the room rate on a award stay, it happens ( but are not supposed to) now and them but dont expect the windfall too often, despite what you might see posted.

BigLar, it's interesting to me that the reimbursed amount (110 Euros) would be that high.

A couple of our PointStretcher stays (in top Hiltons. but not yet Paris) reflected amounts like 33 Euros and 55 Euros, so it appears that PS dates actually result in a lower hotel reimbursement from HHonors.

Grog -

From what I've heard, you could wait a long, long time before you find a PS at the Paris Hilton. It just don't never happen. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I'm casting covetous glances on their top London properties, though. Wonder if they ever come up on a PS.

Any opinions as to whether you are treated better as an elite on an award stay versus a paid stay?

Sometimes the paid rate is low enough that you get torn between using points or paying for the room. If the hotel receives less income from your point stay, you would think they wouldn't be as willing to "roll out the red carpet". However, I've always been treated well on my award stays.
