I plan to buy 60k points for $360 using the points+cash redemption to use for an upcoming trip. I know that many sites give upto 5% cashback if you book a hotel room using their link. Has anyone received cashback for money spent on buying points in this manner?

Technically, there's no checking in or out into a hotel as you book and cancel to get the points refunded.
Just like you book a best available rate through a cash back link but you cancel it, do you receive your cash back?
No right?
I stand corrected.

Although I have no experience of getting cashback for points+redemption+cancel, the comparison you use isn't representative of what is going on. If you cancel a best available rate, you get your money back. a points+cash booking is non refundable, and on cancelling you do not get a refund. Money has been paid to IHG regardless of whether you subsequently cancel or not.
However if it requires a checkout process to activate the cash, then it obviously wont happen, and similarly wont happen if you cancel an advanced purchase rate due to being unable to attend (or indeed just don't show up)

I agree with you that no matter what , $ is paid to IHG.
I guess we really need someone with actual experience to come in to share. :)

Points + Cash bookings are considered Reward Nights and not paid reservations. The points are sold to you by Points.Com as IHG agents and not Priority Club. Points.Com also handles IHG's points transfers.

If I'm correct, if you cancel a Points + Cash (reward night) booking, you do not get the cash refunded, only the points. I know that doesn't really answer the OP's question, but I though I would chime in.

For cash and points reservations exactly the opposite is happening: you're buying the points directly from IHG.

I regularly book via Quidco and have never received cash back on a points or points + cash booking.
However, using the 241 or Amex 35% rates you can get cash back, although a little url tweaking is required.

its all about what rates are considered 'commisionable' as in commission paid to agents. Points & Cash is most definitely not commisionable so therefore I doubt very much you will receive cashback.

I have also found a nil strike rate with cash back on points & cash bookings via quidco, but once a missing cashback claim is put in I have been paid out 100%. About 6 payouts that way.
Always had the 241 and 35%off rates post for cashback without the need to follow up. Often the 241 rate tracks at double the normal amount!
Also found some non £sterling transactions post in £sterling using the foreign currency amount, which can give more than generous cashback amounts. An anamoly I am sure will be corrected in time.

As it happens I did a couple of points+cash bookings via quidco a couple of weeks ago. At this time they are tracking but with "no amount ?" in the message area with a narrative that states "your purchase has tracked correctly but currently has no cashback amount. This will update shortly"
Is this what you you saw, and did you ever do a cash+points+cancel and get a cashback ?
