I have been to FRA twice, returning in March. Last time I arrived on US and transferred to LH, I went to a restaurant near my LH gate that was very open, almost like in a courtyard, but I can't recall the name (Goethe maybe?). My question is, as I am now arriving on US again but connecting to Turkish Airlines, will I be in the same general area? On my return last time (LH to US), I had several hours and had a very difficult time find a restaurant/bar. I finally observed one through a wall of windows and had to exit/re-enter security to get to it. Agenda is PHL-FRA-IST. Overall I gained a great deal of sympathy for rats in a maze! Any help/suggections appreciated (5 hr. layover)

LH, US, and TK are all in T1 at FRA.
You have to go through security as you going non-Schengen (USA) to non-Schengen (Turkey).
Can I suggest you look at this thread from the LH Forum which is a very helpful guide to connecting at FRA http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles-more-lufthansa-austrian-swiss-other-partners/982019-beginners-guide-connecting-fra-fra-connection-thread.html

The good news is that FRA finally listened after years of taking surveys and my suggestion of better airside dining was implemented.

The bad news is that they added a McDonalds, an Asian fusion, and a few other overpriced places, and added the shockingly overpriced HUB shops.

The additional bad news is that the new dining additions are not accessible to most gates.

Quickers is a little overpriced, but if you pass by one I recommend stopping for something as a takeaway 'just in case'.

What was your final destination that first time? (And when was this?)

Both trips were/are PHL-FRA-IST-FRA-PHL

Last trip: US-LH-LH-US

this time: US-TK-TK-US

OK, both IST. I asked because if the first time you flew intra-Schengen you would have ended up in another area altogether.

The OP is probably referring to the Goethe Bar (http://www.frankfurt-airport.com/content/frankfurt_airport/en/shop_enjoy0/food_beverages/bars_snacks/goethe_bar.html) which is in the central area of the departure gate level, non-Schengen concourse B.

Check this map (http://www.frankfurt-airport.de/content/frankfurt_airport/de/misc/container/shopping_and_diningguidet1/jcr:content.file/ShoppingDiningGuide_Terminal1.pdf).

The departure gate for the IST flight is likely to be in the same concourse. I think US departures are usually from lower C gates, less than 10 mins walk from the central area of concourse B.
