Hilton HHonors - Staying Dec31-Jan1; which year gets credited?

I know this question has been answered here, but I can't seem to find it.

If I have a stay where I check in in 2003 and check out in 2004, is it considered a 2003 or a 2004 stay for stay credit purposes?

I have no answers, but I'll pile on with a related question http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

If I am doing a promo for x stays by, say, 1/15/04, does a stay that starts the evening of 1/15/04 count? Or is it checkout date that matters?

It counts for both years - at least it did the last time I did it, for a stay from 12/31/01 to 1/1/02.

Yes it will count for both years, I have gotten credit for both for 4 out of 5 years now for a New years stay.

As to the question of a stay extending past the end of promo date you will get the credit for the date of check-in. In my case I originally made two separate resevations but the property combined them anyway.
Suggest you keep records in both instances so you can verify the details with HHonors.

I was just about to post a similar question because I have my 16th stay of this year coming up for 12/26-1/1 and it dawned on me all of a sudden that I might not get credit for the stay until 2004! I just reviewed HHonors Terms & Conditions and found no answers. I hope HHonors will continue to give stay credit for both years for such a trip.

For what its worth, last week I emailed HHonors with the same question and they replied with "it counts as a 2004 stay"

On a similar vein, does anyone know what happens if you check-in on the last day of a bonus point promo? (Not checking out for a day or two.)

But, if you explain what you would like to have happen (credit to 2003 or credit to 2004) to the front desk manager, he or she will probably be able to do a little computer voodoo to make your wish come true.

Certainly you could get the "stay" credit in 2003 if you want, all they have to do is check you out momentarily on new year's eve. Your points would then split between the two years.

The front desk staff can be pretty creative with the Hhonors program if they are familiar with the computer system.

Well for what its worth I have actually stayed at Hiltons over the New Years six times in the last ten years and I have gotten credit EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Sometimes it has required me calling HHonors,
so I must be extremely lucky.

You will be lucky sometimes to get front desk personnel who has even heard of Hilton Honors and you are probably are wasting you time asking the front deck personnel to do anything unusual. In fact I have found that the main system over-rides the hotel sytems.

Best approach is to call the HHonors center after the stay, as those CSRs will be much more aware of the reasons why it may matter you which year you get credit for.
I have even Hhonors personnel insert and "extra day" into my stay so that I got the credit I wanted.

Oops, just noticed my last question did not post. My 12/26-1/1 stay is an award stay (trying to use up my GLON before it expires). So I don't think I'll have the option of checking out on the 31st and then checking back in. Should I chance it or book another stay in the next week or two at a local Hampton Inn? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
