Chambord, Cheverny and Chenonceau would be my top 3 chateaux.
Chambord is enormous but a bit bare, Cheverny has great grounds and is furnished, Chenonceau is pretty and has a lot of history.
Chenonceau can get quite crowded at peak times - it is popular, but not very large. Chambord and Cheverny are close together, but Chenonceau is about 40km away.

The castles mentioned are nice, but they are all over 90 minutes from Orléans.
The castle of Meung sur Loire is lovely and about 20 minutes away...
