Just did a little random checking. Both the Bolivar and the Nova Domus will be going up to 40,000 (!!!) points/night after the current 8,000 rate expires. Boy, nothing like a 5:1 increase.
Wasn't it also 40K the last time they did this?
Plus, a couple of others in Italy have gone up astronomically. So far (limited checking), the rest of Europe seems about normal.
One of the files another Ft'er was good enough to post had the info that the redemption rates are set by the regional manager. I wonder if the regional manager for Italy covers all of Italy? Maybe that's why they're so radical in their swings - something to do with the mercurial Mediterranean temperament or something.
Anyhow, at least they seem to be keeping the current rates until the posted expiration date, which is an improvement over the last time (and the reason for my previous rant).
PS - I wonder if anyone actually redeems at these rates or, worse yet, the 75,000 point rates in the South Pacific region. I mean, I've stayed at the Hilton Cavalieri for about 40,000 points/night, and Hilton points were a lot easier to come by than Choice points. And no matter how nice these Choice Rome hotels are (I guess they're OK), they are not the Cavalieri. :o
