Any good properties in these cities?
Hilton HHonors - Dayton and Columbus, Ohio PropertiesView Full Version : Dayton and Columbus, Ohio Properties TWA Guy Jan 10, 03, 3:27 pm Any good properties in these cities? a2sportsguy Jan 10, 03, 3:38 pm Previous posters seem to indicate that the downtown HI in Columbus is the best property bar none. Never been there myself, but I want to go some day. I've been to the ES north of town, the HI near the airport and the HI southeast of town. OK properties but nothing to write home about. This weekend, I'll be at the Columbus/Hilliard HS this weekend, based on the fact that they have an indoor pool and two BR suites. However, I'm still willing to reconsider if somebody says another one of the four area HS is better. Dayton? No idea. teacher5 Jan 10, 03, 7:01 pm my husband stays in the dayton downtown doubletree and it works for him cordelli Jan 10, 03, 9:32 pm I've been at a ton of the Hamptons out there for the Hamvention every year, bounce around every night, nothing spectacular, but always clean, good service, etc. Nothing sticks out as either very good or very bad, which is just what you want for a stay in Ohio. By the way, got the rental car on Priceline for Dayton at $14 per night (in May), so if you need a car it's worth a shot. SLC-YYZ Jan 10, 03, 9:49 pm Hello, Friend in the area recommended the Dayton Doubletree. Didn't get a chance to try but it looked nice from the outside. In Columbus stayed at the Doubletree in 2001 Spring and it was pretty good. I heard that it was conversion from a Hilton. For food I do remember a Blue Moon restaurant from this Spring that was pretty good. Nothing else stuck in memory. Have fun. Cheers. svpii Jan 11, 03, 5:40 am Although it's been almost two years, I had a client in Dayton and stayed at the downtown Doubletree many times. The floor I was on had a very nice club room, and the spread was sufficiently good each night that I was able to call it dinner, and of course there is a continental breakfast spread each morning. The hotel is oldish, but well located and rennovated well enough. I was pleased enough to stay about 15 times that year.. kam Jan 11, 03, 7:46 pm My husband and I stayed at the Hilton Easton Town Center in Columbus a couple of weekends ago. It was wonderful. A plus is that you can walk around Easton Town Center right from the Hilton. It is a perfect place for a weekend away. felis Jan 15, 03, 7:46 am <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by svpii: Although it's been almost two years, I had a client in Dayton and stayed at the downtown Doubletree many times. It's clean, but noting marvellous. The rooms are very small, and there is nothing to do and to see outside. The swimming pool is out of service, the fitness room is OK. The restaurant is, - in my opinion -, one of the worst of Dayton, for breakfest as well as for diner. The service is lazzy, and the food not good. The restaurant room is very small, and good for turning very pessimistic. I should have been in the lounge, but the lounge was closed this particular day, as the lady was very late; Nobody gave any information. You need to use the valet parking (8 dollars, the valet parking is NOT an option) to park your car. The DoubleTree on the Dayton Mall is a nearly new buiding (less than 5 years if I remind) in the hotel 'corner' of the Dayton Mall. Big clean rooms, very comfortable, very nice, very big too, all is very impressive there, and there are a lot of restaurants around. The downtown is 10 to 15 minutes from there directly by the I75. The hotel is along the Interstate, but there is no noise inside the rooms or in the restaurant. The restaurant there is 'Le Bistro', and is a comfortable and clean one in the atrium. The food is good, even if not exceptional, and I think there is also a bar-service now for the diner. I visited the Hampton Inn near the Fairfield Mall in Fairborn (just along the 675), which is new, clean and OK, but not a good rate/quality ratio (around 80 dollars) There are also 2 Homewood Suites , one in the Dayton Mall area, just near the DoubleTree and the other one in the Fairborn area, just near the Hampton Inn, but I never visited them. As a matter of fact, I found from my numerous visit here that the best quality-rate ratio are given by : ++++++++++++++++++++++++ The Holiday Inn Fairborn, near the previous mentionned Hampton Inn (usually around 80 to 85 dollars, and breakfest is free if you are Priority Club member) The Crowne Plaza donwtown, which is really a beautiful hotel, rate around 75 to 85 dollars in the week, corporate rate, if you prefer to stay downtown (but the downtown is nothing). This last hotel has a nice restaurant at the top of the buiding; Every people passing a day in Dayton should spend one breakfest or diner in this restaurant for the view on the city. Hope this help [This message has been edited by felis (edited 01-15-2003).] felis Jan 15, 03, 7:51 am Sorry, I mixed myself between ANSWER and EDIT ! [This message has been edited by felis (edited 01-15-2003).] jspatchwork Jan 16, 03, 7:30 am I just stayed at the new Hilton Garden Inn at the Columbus Airport on 1/14. A little bit more expensive than the Hampton Inn right next to it, but for a business traveler the night before an early flight it's a convenient option (24-Hour airport shuttle). There was also a sign for a shuttle to Easton (although to be honest I didn't have time to get the details). I'm a HHonors Gold ... upon check-in received coupons for 2 free waters at the gift shop & a free breakfast coupon. They have a small breakfast buffet (I think normally around $5). If you wanted to add a made-to-order hot breakfast it was $2 more. I had to be out of there by 6am, so I just grabbed a bagel & ran. isogyre Jan 16, 03, 4:35 pm Doubletree downtown Dayton I am HHonors Gold and was not offered breakfast coupons. We were upgraded to a large room, but did not get the concierge floor. The heat in our room did not seem to work when we checked in, but since it was approximately 1am and we had already unpacked, we turned it to high and hoped for the best. It was still out the next morning, so we called the desk and they sent someone up to fix it immediately. He said that it was not uncommon for this to happen. One evening we left a breakfast order on the door, which was never picked up. I mentioned these things when we checked out and all incidental charges were removed from our bill (it was an award stay). It is a great location if you need to be downtown, but kind of drab. Dayton Mall Doubletree Nice property, located south of Dayton. I have stayed there several times and have always been awakend by other guests making noise in the halls and rooms above. In spite of that, I would probably stay there again the next time I am in Dayton rather than go downtown. Hilton Columbus Easton Very nice hotel, convenient to the Easton shopping center. Expensive compared to other nearby HH options, but worth it. Hampton Inn Columbus Airport Less than 1/2 the price of the Hilton Easton, a 5 to 10-minute drive to Easton. Quiet for an airport hotel. Received the "Hampton Touch" and a letter on check-in. Not a bad property: - three fitness clubs in the area. Two are comp for Doubletree guests and one is 10/day but is in the same building so no travel. - Rooms are OK but starting to look worn. Getting a view of the river is best. - High speed internet is available at 9.95/day - Parking is 18.00 /day - Restaurant and lounge are OK - but nothing great. Good 1/2-price specials from 5-7 PM. ------------------ PB mikey1003 Nov 27, 03, 7:25 pm The Hampton Col Convention center is very interesting. It is an old building that has been converted. Very nice property. PetoskeyFlyer Nov 27, 03, 7:30 pm Attended a conference at the Convention Center 9/03. Stay at DoubleTree was less than satisfactory. Reserved KNS with request for upgrade and got a double. Said "they can only guarantee a room not type." As a Gold asked for upgrade, non avail. Complained to Manager and got moved to a room on 4th floor. Offered me breakfast buffet vouchers for the inconvenience but already we got them as Gold VIP. At 6pm they started jackhammering the parking ramp which occupies the first 5 floors. Next morning I went to Convention Center 8 blocks and see a Hampton Inn and Suites across the street. Asked to see a room a Gold VIP would get and it was a similar suite as the Doubletree so we made arrangements to re-locate. Of course this is when Doubletree tried to beg us to stay. Amazingly a KNS opened on 14th with riverfront view! "Okay we'll take it." Then the toilet didn't work and the bathroom door dragged on the tile. Needless to say we were out of there the next morning and thoroghly enjoyed our HIS stay. DT did comp us one night. HIS was $20/nt cheaper than DT and only 3 yrs old. Pool and hot tub were welcome at HIS as we saw a lot of the Short North on foot. Cool area to check out. Also the Brewery District is worth the 15 minute walk. All day Happy Hour $1.00 beers can't be beat in Columbus. Bottom line, DT was not the usual quality and the cheaper HIS was roomier, newer and cheaper. 777RJ Nov 28, 03, 9:52 am I would definately recommend the Columbus Airport Homewood Suites. Not on the airport runway strip (like the HGI or Hampton Inn), so airplane noise is not an issue. Free high speed internet, breakfast and light dinner (M-TH). All rooms are a minimum one room suite. Lindyhopper Nov 30, 03, 11:38 am Dayton I have recently stayed at the Dayton Doubletree, Dayton South (which is across from the mall, not in it) and the Homewood Suites Dayton South. The Homewood suites is my preference - much quiter rooms and faster breakfast. NCRBILL Jul 9, 04, 12:18 am I'll be there in Aug and want to see if there is one property over the other that I should stay at. I'll be in the northern part of the city but that isn't that big an issue over a nice property and price. u600213 Jul 10, 04, 3:45 pm I am usually going to WPAFB and I like the Homewood Suites of Fairborn OH which is off of I675 on a street called Presidential Drive next to a Holiday Inn, a Hampton, and the most excellent descriptively named establishment: "Cold Beer and Cheeseburgers. I'll be in the northern part of the city but that isn't that big an issue over a nice property and price. The Doubletree Downtown Dayton is clean, but nothing fantastic - somewhat worn. It's $8 everytime you park your car, and as previously mentioned, always done by a valet. The restaurant looked small, but I didn't dine there. The banquet facilities on the lower level are nice enough. The rooms are very small, but everything was functional. I'd try to find a newer Hampton or HGI in the area. I've never stayed at the Doubletree south of Dayton, but have seen good comments for it on FT. candaceg Oct 25, 05, 9:03 am Any more recent updates on the Doubletree Suites Dayton Miamisburg? I'm staying there next week on a business trip. Specifically, I'm wondering about the fitness room facilities. Are they decent? delpreston Oct 25, 05, 4:45 pm I've stayed at every Hilton Garden Inn in and around Columbus. My favorite is the Hilton Garden Inn Dublin. Nice, quiet location, staff is great, and all they never miss the $5 Diamond pantry offer. Hilton Easton is quite nice, but always priced in the high 100s to 200s. bruingirl Oct 25, 05, 10:23 pm I stayed here in August. It is indeed a nice property and I highly recommend it. candaceg Nov 4, 05, 11:16 am Update from the Dayton/Miamisburg Doubletreee... the staff was really friendly but gave me a blank look when I asked if they had a running map - they did not have any kind of map of the area. The room looked good on arrival, but upon closer inspection, there were lots of cleanliness issues - visible dirt on the couch, hair in the shower that was still there the second day, etc. I was missing a lightbulb in the bedside lamp. The upside was that it had a super comfortable bed. The fitness room is adequate and reasonably nice. lellert Nov 4, 05, 11:37 am I've stayed at the Hilton at Easton (very nice but pricey) and the Embassy Suites on Corporate Exchange Drive. The ES is a bit out of the way but I love the place (stayed their six times this year), the rooms are all very spacious and they have the standard Happy Hour (two free drink coupons per night) and breakfast (with made-to-order grill). NW-A332 Nov 4, 05, 7:16 pm The Hilton Easton is really nice and they treated us very well...although it is pricey. They gave us executive floor room with access to the lounge. And they gave us our choice of another amenity...I think it was one of the following: free valet parking, bottle of wine w/ dinner, free in-room movie, and something else. Didn't have the opportunity to use the amenity though. BoulderFlyer Nov 8, 05, 11:29 pm I'm not normally a Hampton Inn fan, but the Hampton Inn in Columbus across from the convention center is a wonderful property in a great location. The staff is great, the property is very much a cut above the "normal" Hampton Inn. It's one of my favorite Hilton properties. liveon777 Feb 8, 06, 7:17 am So it sounds like, aside form the price, that the Easton Columbus Hilton is a pretty nice place. I have a 16 week stint coming up in that area and will be staying there starting next week, along with 1-2 coworkers a week. I am hoping to get the rate knocked down a little due to the length of the stay (3-4 nights/week). And plan on talking to the manager early next week to see what we can do. TrinaLC Aug 24, 06, 7:34 am I've stayed numerous times at the downtown Dayton DT. Except for a convenient location if you need to be downtown (and with Mead and NewPage moving out, can't imagine why anyone would need to be downtown), i'd give this property a pass. Rooms are small and dated. Halls have old, stained carpeting. Elevators take forever. I've had to switch rooms due to unclean bathrooms. Probably one of my least favorite Hilton properties. Needs a major refurb. pbjag Sep 10, 06, 12:35 pm It's between one of these two properties or the Courtyard in the same are. Any recent stays or recos of one vs. the other? I'll be working in my room until about noon, so desk/workspace is important GoIllini Oct 4, 06, 12:49 pm I've stayed numerous times at the downtown Dayton DT. Needs a major refurb. This property was bought out by outside investors in the last year. There is supposed a major upgrade being planned but it has not been evident as of yet. The only change so far has been a significant amount of staff turnover, from the front desk to the housekeeping crew. The location is great if you're working downtown (though I prefer the Crowne Plaza) but if you're not, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. jabez Oct 4, 06, 1:44 pm I just returned from a couple nights at HS Fairborn. It's an older (clean) property with nice pm food. Overall, a little better than normal HS. Hayden Jan 19, 07, 3:01 pm I recently spent a couple nights at the Hampton Inn across the street from the Columbus Convention Center. I was in bad shape (stomach flu), but the hotel was excellent. Friendly, professional staff; room was fine. It's also in Columbus' very walkable "Short North" area, which has a couple Japanese and Italian restaurants, some steak houses, and plenty of sports bars. Also, it's just a couple blocks from the Arena (e.g., ice hockey games), and about a 12-minute drive from the airport. -Hayden liveon777 Jun 19, 07, 7:51 pm So it sounds like, aside form the price, that the Easton Columbus Hilton is a pretty nice place. It ended up being a much longer project and I would gladly return to this hotel. By far the best one in the area. Having Easton right there is a huge bonus!! And the folks that work there are GREAT! |
