Italy - venice cold spell

we went to venice in mid jan. it was our 12th trip in jan/feb. we did not see this(actually weather was quite plesant), and in fact have seen snow, but never ice on the canals and the lagoon.

i was there too. I pack light when I travel. I nearly froze. The apartment didn't have enough heat to keep up. It was just a matter of hustling from one place to the next, and staying inside. I too, have never seen Venice like this.
