I'm seeing comparably rates for a 1 king bed Waldorf=Astoria (non-conceirge) suite and a Waldorf Towers (non-ambassador) suite for a few days after Christmas.

According to the website, the Waldorf Towers suite is larger... "lavish".

Advice appreciated; searched for but didn't see this direct comparison.

I'm a Diamond if that has any bearing on possible upgrades / treatment.

We stayed last year at the Waldorf Towers and had two suites. The rooms were magnificent and the service was great. I recommentd staying at the Waldorf Towers which is much plusher than the Waldorf Hotel.

As a Diamond HH says I'll be upgraded to "Towers or executive level floors whenever possible." If I reserve at the Waldorf=Astoria will they put me there or at the Waldorf Towers? I know these two are near each other but are they connected and in fact the same overall property? I have not reserved a suite.

I had an award stay at the Waldorf, and upon asking for the Waldorf Towers, they told me it was a different hotel (a Conrad). I too would appreciate hearing more about the specific benefits and Waldorf Towers accommodations.

Physically they're the same overall property. Special elevators for The Towers. The Towers is nicer. Rooms within the regular Waldorf can be wildly variable -- some are decrepit.

from prior posts and experience, the practice definitely varies - some are told as above, the Towers are different; some diamonds are given Tower suites without a problem.

Two things to be aware of about Hilton's Flagship property:

1.) The W=A has no 'Towers' level. It has an Astoria level. It's only 3 floors with about 15 "rooms" on each, many of which are junior or full size suites, so people shouldn't be put off if they don't get the upgrade to those levels because there are plenty of people who pay for those rooms, especially in the busy season of Spring, Fall and Christmas.

2.) The Astoria lounge on 26 is only available to people on 25-27 (the Astoria level in the W=A) and all guests of the Waldorf Towers (floors 28-42). Since the Towers is, in fact, a completely separately managed and operated hotel, it's rare for a W=A guest to be upgraded to it. In 100+ nights there over the past 2 years, I had ONE upgrade to an oversized room there. All my other nights usually had a nice upgrade in the W=A somewhere.
But the lower floors up to 25 have many rooms, and many various suite types on each of those floors.

If you do not get a room that's eligible for Lounge access, you are entitled to breakfast coupons for Oscar's restaurant on the ground level on the Lexington Ave. side. They usually give them without asking, but make sure you get the coupons if they forget. You can also get, in lieu of these coupons, 2 drink coupons to any bar/restaurant. At $11 for glass of wine, they come in handy.
