Flying Blue (Air France, KLM, and Other Partners) - Delta Medallion to Air France Status match

I am a Diamond Medallion on Delta. Will Air France status match me to the equivalent?

Flying Blue does not normally status match from a programme within Skyteam.

As fas as I know there are no status match programmes running at the moment either (as FB normally does not status match - last year's situation was an exception).

To your first point, I am also now gold (or will be after this HKG-JFK flight) on BA. Does that make a difference or does there have to be an initiative for them to do it?

As was stated earlier, Flying Blue typically does not status match (the exception being the "Thanks by Flying Blue" status match program last year, when they matched virtually all non-SkyTeam FFPs). So they are unlikely to match your BA status.

Just out of curiosity, why did you want to match your Delta status? You already receive the relevant SkyTeam benefits when flying on any of the Flying Blue airlines - so a status match would, effectively, be pointless.

I'm not sure how it works in SkyTeam, but in *A you can book your miles to one FFP, while enjoying the status benefits of another FFP. In theory, if this is also the case for SkyTeam, you could open a Flying Blue account, and qualify for status in Flying Blue by putting your SkyTeam miles in your new FB account, while enjoying the SkyTeam privileges of your Delta status on those same flights.

It's one of the unwritten rules anyway that airlines don't match status of a carrier in the same alliance.

In Skyteam that is not possible. You could however first add your DL DM FF number to the booking to get extra luggage etc and in the lounge/transfer desk get them to change it to your new FB number.

Except when you are flying Delta from Delta stations incld overseas stations where DL system is in use. They still have the ridiculous rule that once your journey has started, you cannot change your FFP. No Delta agent will be able to do that [even outside of US].

I don't think it is absolutely neccessary to put your DL number into the booking if you would like to enjoy (most) status benefits. You should be able to get things like extra baggage, priority bording, lounge access, etc. just by showing your card. At least with AFKL I cannot see a problem here if you explain your situation to the staff. So you could put your FB number in the booking and enjoy benefits with DL for the short time until you have status with FB.

I had a situation once where the check-in agent was only allowed to give me the free luggage allowance stated in the system. If no elite level shows up no extra luggage allowance can be given.
That was a few years ago though not sure if it has changed.

I don't consider it rediculous. when you use the benefits like lounge access, priority security screening and so on it costs the FFP money. They get some of that money back through the points that are deposited in your account. If you change the FFP and send the point to another program, the one paying for your benefits does not receive compensation.

In fact, I am pretty sure that due to the above all FFP programs have in fine print that it is not allowed to do the trick described above.

You may be right. But assume that I want to change for the purpose of getting the maximum out of each program from earning point of view, than this makes it impossible. Also for DL, if you travel with a companion and want to use the companion upgrade benefit, your companion also needs to have a DL number in there to benefit even though your companion normally does not collect in the SM program.

I am not sure if this is a good line of reasoning.
1. The "compensation" for using the status benefits is the fact that the OP used DL's program to collect enough miles that allowed him/her to get status in the first instance.
2. If this "compensation problem" were really such a big issue, other alliances such as *A would not allow people to use status from one program and credit miles to a different one.

Going through a *A or OW airline might be an option. I matched my AF Platinum to United 1P, made it to 1K then matched to DL Platinum.

yeah, but it doesn't work the other way around.

I don't understand why the OP wants to do this? Generally speaking, DL miles are a better value than FB miles (no YQ charge), and treatment is essentially the same, with the exception of some small details (EC comes to mind on KL, although I never have trouble securing ER seats).

When I was a FO, I was getting the (better) FB benefits because they just assumed that DL Silver was the same.

You actually get free EC on KL  that's a published benefit. If I were the OP I wouldn't change either.

Apologies for the delay - was on a crazy LAX-SYD-NRT-BKK-HKG-JFK and left my laptop well and truly in the bag on layovers.

So for clarification: I originally thought I needed to migrate over to AF from DL due to relocation. Perhaps I am over thinking this as I *assumed* that I should try to swap airline alliances seeing a I will be flying AF metal from now on.

Should I simply keep my DL medallion status and continue to book AF with that FF# and claim the benefits that way. I just wonder if I am missing out by doing that. Can I use DL miles to upgrade on AF for example? Is there any benefit of migrating in the long term?

Thoughts?

If you want to upgrade from Y to C that is the same (even easier with DL SWUs since there are no SWUs on the AF side), but you cannot use SM or SWUs to upgrade from C to F. If you want AF F then you have to migrate (at least some of you business) to AF. Mind you AF F is NOT worth what they are charging but that's a different story.
