Appears Frontier is chasing new service at airports offering revenue guarantees. New service is set for roll-out on Thursday...

Bellingham, WA
Bloomington/Normal, IL (again)
Cedar Rapids, IA
Great Falls, MT (again)
Harrisburg, PA

All of these cities have been public about their desires to lure new low-fare service and they have various revenue guarantees and/or travel banks set-up to limit initial service losses.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to the summer schedule. Not sure where the aircraft are going to come from. Guessing more frequency reductions on major markets out of DEN.

And...added to this shortly after first posting...a couple of e-mails just in allude to nonstop service from Colorado Springs to several cities in the west. Don't know specs but information is coming from some close sources in the aviation industry.

Looks like:

BLI 1x/day Airbus
MDT 3x/week Airbus
CID 4x/week E190
BMI 4x/week E190
GTF 4x/week E190

Doesn't look like a ton of lift that needs to be freed up to add these cities.

Really glad to see Bloomington/Normal back in the fold. Now, Chicago O'Hare connections will be a thing of the past.

A lot of these towns also just lost WN/FL service. Hopefully they can make them work. BLI might be the closest they get to serving Canada again.

BLI I think is replacing a GEG frequency. Looks like the E90s are coming out of MKE...

Looks like COS-PDX, COS-SEA, COS-LAX, and COS-PHX with varied schedules on Airbus aircraft. Hope it works out!

Revenue guarantees and travel banks are good to get an airline to come, but to stay, there still has to be a profit. If after an initial period, a profit isn't feasible, the whole different animal will run away.

BLI is for the most part YVR south. A perusal through the parking lot will reveal more cars with British Columbia plates than Washington plates. Its filling up AS flights to HNL daily, as well as supporting G4's base. F9 should do OK there provided the fares are competitive to AC/UA fares YVR-DEN.

Pretty exciting for COS. We have needed something positive like this after almost constant cuts by the legacy's.

Nice article in the link below about this.

This is only for DEN routes.

I remember the WestPac days, and they were good for my wallet. I must admit even I'm suprised that Frontier added these routes from COS. Maybe there is more to come out of COS via Frontier, but only time will tell. We still have an empty concourse on the east side that barely saw an airplane before WestPac made the move to DEN. I always thought that helped speed up the path to BK for them, but I admit I don't know the specifics.

For me, COS is a longtime dream come true. I'd like to see COS-SAN as well, and a route to the east - COS-MCI, probably, for connections to DCA and LGA.

(Yes, I remember Midwest served COS-MCI).

I'd also like to see Frontier apply for COS-DCA in the new round of beyond perimeter slots.

I'd like to see a COS-DAY and a COS-DCA. Lots of .gov travelers on those routes.

Actually, I don't see it happening anytime soon. I just don't think ever to start a direct flight COS-DCA due to perimeter rule. If they eased the perimeter rule. Because this is slots restrictions. If they ever approval from DOT in a distant the future.

The new DOT bill has 8 more beyond perimeter slots available. 4 are going to legacies, and the other 4 are up for grabs from the LCCs. We'll see what happens.

The recently passed FAA Reauthorization Bill includes provisions for eight additional "beyond perimeter" flights. Four of these must got to incumbent airlines (who have to give up a within perimeter flight in exchange).

The other four flights have to go to "limited incumbents" (who don't have to give up anything) of which Frontier is one. Advantage will be given to those airlines who apply for cities not presently served as non-stops to DCA (PDX/SAN etc) or who have very limited non-stop service (LAX, for example).

It is assumed that the DOT will open up applications for those new routes in the near future.

these wont last, just like everything else F9 has failed at over the years. I truly think its about time they close up shop and dump assets. And I dont think that is to far behind from Republic leadership.

Thanks for your cheery contribution to the discussion! We've had a lot of naysayers over the past few years and F9 is starting to turn it around. Will these routes work? Who knows, but people seem to forget the massive operation they have at DEN that keeps the lights on. Earnings are starting to turn around, and they continue to lower costs while their competitors costs are going up.

I think COS is a better one. And perhaps MDT. But then I remember the crap that was flung at Frontier when they started PHF - and now that's going to daily, year round.

I have never understood the negativity that attaches to this tiny airline. I do understand the disappointment that comes from this MKE-centric board over these present moves, it is human nature. I am a little disappointed, too, but I follow Frontier, not MKE.

I would have thought that MKE folk would want the airlines they have to be successful and profitable, not just there. Since I don't believe that the situation at MKE was/is sustainable, something had to give.

Just to point out, that the last time Frontier had "problems" it was caused by a situation that they had little notice of and also no control over. The current leadership is better and it is providing a great product.I recently took a UA flight to DEN with the usual who cares GA's, surly FA's , not so great planes, and then did the return via Frontier, like night and day.clean Airbus, decent service for what it is, and no issues.Keep doing that and they may just stick around.

Still sticking with Frontier here. Just wish they had some international partnerships to Asia and Continental Europe that I could enjoy and earn miles on.

Welcome to the F9 forum tpaw580! I'll have to agree that all of my Frontier flights in the past year have been wonderful and all the employees I've interacted with have been great. Frontier really is something special and they make it really easy to root for them.

Frontier is receiving incentives from the state of Iowa and CID airport. Should help the service out and reduce the cost of opening a new station.

"The Cedar Rapids Airport Commission on Monday is expected to approve an agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for funding from its Air Service Development program toward a $248,826 incentive package for Frontier to provide four flights a week.

The state will provide 60 percent of the incentive package up to a maximum of $100,000. The airport will match that with as much as $75,000 for marketing and up to $73,826 in waived rental, loading bridge and landing fees.

Under the agreement with IDOT, the airport will market the new Frontier service for up to a year through advertising in newspapers and on television, the Internet and radio stations."
