You mean SA...correct.
Row 2 on the 737 must be for their shorter flights. Never had the pleasure of the smaller plane but cannot imagine that they would not sell those 5 seats. Especially the one without the row in front.

Flew CPT/JNB on a 737 in row 2 (A&C) a few weeks ago. Booked it several months earlier. Was an award booking (part of an international itinerary) made through the Voyager helpdesk. Asked for row 2 and got it.
I called the SAA US office again and they swear 2A is permanently blocked for crew.... doesn't make sense
What is the number for voyager? I will call them

Hello CLTF,
The seat you are inquiring about is - when possible - held for passengers traveling with infants as it has facilities to attach a bassinet. Should no passengers with infants have requested the seat, it is made available to other travelers.
Our sincerest apologies for any miscommunication. We trust this helps clarify the matter.
Kind regards,
South African Airways, North America

Business class is really not the place for infants. Babies and children should be welcome only on a full C fare.

The need for a bassinet on a 2 hour internal flight is - to say the least - highly questionable :(. And the seat map shows 1D to be a bassinet seat, not 2A or 2C. So I doubt the accuracy of SAAUSA's remark. I also cannot remember seeing a bassinet 'socket' there, but then I did not look for one.....
On the issue of children in C: I must say that I have seen (some) adults behave a lot worse than (many) children in any cabin. Give me a well behaved child over a noisy, too much drinking adult any day
