Florida - Do taxis around MIA accept credit cards?

I am trying to decide whether I want to rent a car for a one-day swing through Miami or just take cabs. I just need to get from MIA to the St. Regis Bal Harbour and back. I am leaning toward the cab just for convenience's sake; it is a short trip, and I think the cost will be more or less identical once parking and gas are factored into the rental car expense. But I know it will be a pricey cab ride each way, so can I pay with a CC?

IIRC they do not. I often do a day to South Beach mid week and just rent a car as it is usually cheaper even with tolls, parking and gas. Also, I've had some really bad experiences with MIA cab drivers. I swear half of them seem to be hopped up on crack. I value my life too much to get out on the Dolphin Expressway in traffic with them at the wheel.

I generally use a hotel shuttle, occassionally Super Shuttle or a car service or sometimes a rental car. Never a cab to and from the airport.

Fortunately for the OP, most taxis from MIA would take the 115 (Airport Expressway) to 95/195 then on to Bal Harbour, and avoid the Dolphin....^

For a 1 night stay, the taxi idea sounds fine and should cost $43 + tip each way (fixed rate)....http://www.miami-airport.com/hotel_shuttles.asp
But as newyorkgeorge mentioned....maybe the hotel has some resonably priced options for transport that may work for your needs?

Thanks to both of you. I will take a cab and just be prepared with sufficient cash if I have to shell it out. Given that I'm staying at the St. Regis, I doubt there will be shuttle service that's any cheaper than a cab. They'd probably be delighted to book me a hotel car for $100 each way, or something like that. (As a relevant data point, the parking rate there is $38 a night.)

Ouch, $38 a night. That blows any savings for a rental car. Using PL or HW you can usually get a one day rental car for about $30ai. Gas would be another $10 or so.

When I ask for one that takes cards at the cab stand, I get one. Not all of them have any means to take them, and some of them have a 1970s-style mechanical imprinter in the trunk.

I had the great fortune to ride from MIA-FLL when Sixt ran out of cars. 80-90 mph in an old cop car up 95. Yikes.
