Hilton HHonors - Old award, new reservation. OK??

I had to cancel a reservation made prior to May, 2003 but had the award in hand. One Hilton agent said I had to turn the award in and could not use it on a new reservation (I don't remember that requirement). Other agents have not even asked me what kind of award I have. However, I do not want a problem at the hotel when I rebook. Any experience with using the old award with a new reservation?

Sure...I have used old rewards with new reservations without a hitch. And have been pleasantly surprised with the consistency of the Hilton phone agents regarding their knowledge/understanding of the old awards when making a new reservation. Without fail, they've given me good info (like confirming the hotels 'old' category) and reminding me that I can always re-deposit the 'old' certificate before the expiration date if I don't use it.
