Hi,
I wonder if anyone can give me an idea of how the duty free prices in DME compare to those in Heathrow, specifically for cigarettes? I'm in Heathrow at the moment. A friend of mine asked me to get her 200 Marlboro Gold. They were 35 dollars in JFK, 35 pounds here in Heathrow - I don't suppose there is much chance that they will be 35 Rubles in DME? :)
If anyone has any recent experiences that you could offer, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Frank.

I don't smoke, so can't give you cigarette prices (although I can pretty much say for certain a carton is more than 35 rubles), but I've always found alcohol roughly on a par with the level in the city, it really isn't that much cheaper (but if you're on a direct flight, you can carry it on and don't have to worry about it breaking in your checked luggage). I would say prices are more likely to be on a par with London than JFK.

Russia is trying to remove the sale of cigarettes in duty free, but it hasn't happened yet. Airline prices are often cheaper than the airport, you can check inflight prices here.. http://www.dutyfreeonarrival.com/en/search/airline

Thank you both for your help and advice.

As you suggested, the price on the flight was a LOT better than the Heathrow Duty Free price - 42 pounds on the flight for 400 cigs, vs. 63 pounds in the airport for exactly the same thing. To be on the safe side, I got them on the plane. It will be interesting to see what the duty free prices are like when I leave here on Saturday.

Anyway, thank you both again for your help.

Frank.

I don't know how much your brand costs in DME but I always see a line of people with cigarettes in front of cashier.

As crazy as it may sound a tube of cigs in DME is more expensive than in a regular shop in Moscow. I did a quick check and a tube of Malboro Golds is around £12 in Utkonos (Russian online supermarket) vs. £25 in a duty free.
