MLIT approves Jetstar Japan’s operating systems and processes
Fares to go on sale within weeks
First flight on track for 3 July

etstar has been given the green light by Japan’s regulator – the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT) – with Jetstar Japan receiving its Air Operators’ Certificate today.

The Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) signifies approval of Jetstar’s operating policies and procedures to deliver domestic flights in Japan. It includes the airline’s approach to cabin services, ground operations, engineering, safety and customer service.

Pak, any implications for the cheaper Sakitoku fares and JAL Air Passes - for all us Hokkaido visitors (skiers & boarders).

My guess is not much changes in the short term for Yokoso and Welcome to Japan fares. Sakitoku fares might decrease in the near future but that really depends on how much traffic Jetstar, Air Asia, and Peach can steal from JAL (and ANA + Skymark) with their limited schedule.

I haven't paid attention to the KIX domestic fares, have that decreased after Peach started their service?

The NRT fare is ridiculous. I am looking at TYO-OKA tickets, the Super Sakitoku from HND is ~13000 JPY while the one from NRT is ~21000 JPY. Hopefully the fare will decrease once these LCCs expand further

When does Jetstar Japan get its callsign, ICAO and IATA codes?

Is QF able to get the A320s in time for the earlier then planned start? (QF has 110 A320s on order meant for Jetstar and its Asian sisters in Singapore, Vietnam, Japan and Hong Kong)

I guess within weeks before tickets go on sale? Now they have the AOC, I bet it's just paperworks left to get the call sign, ICAO and IATA codes.

The press release says they are on track of the July 3 launch. So getting the A320s shouldn't be a problem

by the way the code is GK

2012年7月3日以降、ジェットスター・ジャパン株式会社(GK)により順次運航開始予定。(関係機関の 認可を前提)

But I thought GK is taken http://www.flightstats.com/go/Airline/airlineDetails.do;jsessionid=94934B7FA9C206CA0625D 6FC624EED8A.web4:8009?airlineCode=GK

If Go One is still around, there may be some arrangement similar to the DJ/VS callsign arrangement (DJ is allowed to use the VS ICAO callsign of 'Virgin' within Australia. DJ flights outside Australia use 'BLUEBIRD' or 'BLUEY' and different ICAO codes.)

KIX fares have not changed as far as I can tell. My guess is that JAL and ANA would rather focus domestic service on ITM and HND, where they can keep charging a high fare, instead of taking a loss on domestic fares at the more distant international airports. There is simply no way that they can compete with a true LCC cost structure in this country.

But they would have to when these true LCCs start international services. NRT-ICN/China/HKG will put some pressures on JAL and ANA

We'll see. They are already focusing on HND for these point-to-point markets as well.

so NRT service to these point-to-point markets will become secondary ones mainly for transit passengers and they will compete for the O/D traffics with HND convenience

Aren't they about to start the expansion of the International terminal (or so I thought) ?

yea very soon :D

Can you really segregate the two markets like this? Some flights need both markets in order to fill the seats. I guess smaller planes like 787 helps
