Hi guys,

Has anyone any experience on connecting from Finnair flight to Hong Kong Airlines flight? Can you check through the luggage if there are 2 seperate tickets?

Thanks,
hh

I don't have experience exactly that combination but several other cases. Asnwer is "no". Finnair has changed this rule couple of years ago. If the connecting flight is not OW or ticketed as one, you will need to pick up and check in the luggage in HKG yourself.

I don't have experience of HongKong airlines either. But I would say you need to collect and check it again. I even had 1-2 such incidents within 1 PNR on OW connections (never on AY's side, but some CX outstations cannot check to final destinations or even issue BPs when connection is CX->AY)

However, transfer desk and luggage handling facility is amazing at HKIA. I once had a connection, on such situation (1 PNR but not checked to final). The transfer desk could intercept my luggage in the flow, re-tag it to final dest and came running to the gate with my new BPs and luggage tags.

So if you were on 1 PNR I would have suggested trying the transfer desk first.

I flew a month ago HEL-HKG-CKG(Jakarta), AY069 and CX 797. Had my luggages send directly to Jakarta. No problems at all. I cant remenber if I had one or 2 tickets. Anyway, as vpk wrote, according to rules Finnair is not supposed to send the luggages to the final destinaltion if you have 2 separate tickets.

GOT-HEL-HKG-AKL (AY and CX interlined ticket) works splendid, but on the return the CX check-in at AKL usually have a bit of trouble. They usually check luggage only to HKG or HEL. Sometimes they can force the luggage to go all the way to GOT, but cannot produce BPs for more than leg 1&2!

BTW, welcome back Laajo! haven't seen you for a while on this board!

It's true only if not flying Oneworld, 2 or even more tickets with OW is not a problem, according to the rules. In reality it can be something else, though ;)

I've had bad experiences with both Lan and American..with Cathay everything usually works like a clock.

Back to (I suppose very cold?) Europe in couple of days so another chance to test how AY interlining works with separate tickets..
