"The TalkBoard recommends that the Toronto subforum be eliminated and the threads therein be placed in the Canada forum."
This vote will close on February 20, 2012 at 4:31 pm or after all TalkBoard members have registered their vote, whichever comes first.
Per the TalkBoard Guidelines:
A motion shall pass if at least two-thirds of the yes or no votes cast by TalkBoard members are ‘yes’ and a majority of the total TalkBoard membership votes 'yes.'
The purpose of posting voting topics in the public TalkBoard Topics forum is to solicit member feedback on any motions that are up for a vote and to allow for comments after a vote is made. It is at the sole discretion of the individual TalkBoard members whether they choose to post in the public discussion thread, there being no requirement to do so.
So while there is already a thread and discussion on this general topic and it is safe to assume that TalkBoard members have reviewed that thread, this thread is about this specific motion.
Please feel free to post questions, comments or any other sort of feedback in this thread, or in the other discussion thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/talkboard-topics/1306930-question-does-toronto-really-need-its-own-sub-forum.html

Seems sensible, given the absence of people defending it.

I do believe that it is critical that when a forum proves itself to be under-utilized it be rolled up.
In this case, there is a convenient recipient of the existing threads. Given the posting history, the Canada forum will serve Toronto as well if not better than its own forum.
IMHO.

Please be aware that, imho and if past is prologue, it will likely take a full 2 weeks for this decision to be announced one way or the other.
But I will stop posting in this thread when the outcome is no longer in doubt. :)

I am aware of the process involved and didn't think it would happen overnight but was merely stating my support for it happening in due course.

As someone who has been posting travel assistance to YYZ on a regular basis in the last few year I am sure that merging Toronto into rest of Canada will not be any problem like the London info being part of the UK thread.

Quick! Someone! Post in opposition to this proposal! Give us some DRAMA to work with, here!!!
(This subject has been bounced around a few different FT forums for several days now and not a soul has made so much as a squeak of dissent. I'll give the membership a little while longer to, er, fully respond before casting my vote in stone, though. ;))

Im neutral, but keeping the Toronto sub forum will make it easier for people searching past topics specific to Toronto to find it easier. Also for those responding to Toronto only topics, it's easier to see which threads are Toronto related as its in a separate forum.
On the otherhand, some people post Toronto related questions in the Canada forum, so perhaps its best to just merge it into there. Threads are likley to get more attention, as less people go into the sub forum from the Canada wide forum im guessing.

don't care one way or the other. as much as people claim the search feature on this board does not work, it works fine and it does not seem too hard to punch in YYZ or Toronto and voila...
we who live in Toronto are used to people wanting to loop us all into Canada even though we are at the centre of the universe as far as Canada is concerned...:D

If YYZ gets it's own forum, why not YUL, YVR, YYC, YEG, YWG, YHZ?
YYZ is part of Canada and should be treated like such.

Thank you! You're giving me something to work with, now. Seconded! :p
(So said by the person from Alaska, which is often viewed by the world as a Canadian province...)
Back to the original proposal:
Seeing how intensely worked up these Canadians are over this intensely controversial proposal, I will now defy their reckless, irresponsible demands to keep the forum up and and shall vote in favor of the motion. ;)

Oh my. Your fellow patriots in Vancouver and Montreal may not quite agree. Heck, I have a business colleague in Windsor that would not agree. :p
For this American, anything North of the Border is awesome, and I enjoy ALL of it. I won't plug any favorites.
I've perused the Toronto threads, and enjoy that city, having traveled there extensively in the last 30 years. If the category remains, great. If not, I'll live. Whatever the mods want to do is fine with me. I'm just glad the board is here.

:td:If YYZ gets it's own forum, why not YUL, YVR, YYC, YEG, YWG, YHZ:confused:?
YYZ is part of Canada and should be treated like such.
This is, w/o doubt, the dumbest idea I ever read on F/T.
Let's start with the (obvious) answer to this question. YYZ is a major transit airport, esp. for Americans travelling to Europe. They are not all familiar with YYZ, and turn to FT for assistance.
The most recent post on the YYZ sub-forum was 2 hours ago. The most recent post about YVR on the Canada forum was almost a week ago:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/canada/1310900-craft-beer-yvr.html
FT has a # of other sub-forums in major O&D and transit points e.g. LAX, SFO, ORD, JFK.
The latest census data for YYZ shows a population of 5.6 million, an increase of 9.2 %. Why a sub-forum? The answer is obvious!

Is a vote even needed to close a forum?
According to this post:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/11201697-post2.html
9. At the end of each year, the TalkBoard President will ask the FlyerTalk Host for end-of-year forum activity metrics. Each February, the TalkBoard shall review the least-used forums for possible closure, based on the end-of-year metrics. Members should not expect public notice in advance of proposals to close forums due to the potential for manipulation of the metrics.
I see no mention of a vote, and it specifically says, "Members should not expect public notice in advance of proposals to close forums." Have the rules changed? What are the metrics for the Toronto forum?

Proposals require votes. All this is saying is that we will likely not have public discussion before we make a proposal to shut a forum.
