Asiana Club - requalifying and new member package?

Hi,

I flew the required miles to requalify for Diamond status several months ago. I was wondering if I should be receiving my new package now or at the end of my re-qualifying period in November?

Thanks.

it's supposed to be delivered to you at the time you qualify. but I have heard several times, and also made the experience myself, that you need to ask for it. When I sent my email asking for it, it was delivered within two weeks or so.

i also requalified for diamond in december 2011. my original status was to expire on nov 30/12. when i called the help desk to get the new package and card, they said that there was no way for them to give me a card with the new expiry date (dec 31/14) until dec 1/12. they said their system could only spit out the old expiry date. the implication is that there will be a period of time while i'm without a valid card and waiting for the new one to come. they said that all * partners would still accept the old, expired card during that time but i'm doubtful.

so i wonder ... have people called to ask for the package after re-qualifying, and did they receive one with an updated expiry date?

I've requalified for Diamond Plus, and also haven't received my new card, nor was expecting to, as all the other FFPs I'm a member of don't issue cards for the next renewal period until just before (or sometimes after) your current period expires.

I know that they can make your card for you right on the spot at ICN, but don't know if it's possible at any other airports or not. If you're flying through an airport where OZ has a presence, it might be worthwhile to ask if it can be issued after your current card expires.

Back when the new rules were announced, I signed up, with my qualifying period beginning October 1, 2008. I assumed my status period would end on September 30, 2012, but my card says it's valid through November 2012, meaning November 30, 2012. Strange is that my current qualifying period is November 1, 2010 through November 30, 2012, meaning 25 months, not 24 months. And my "Date of Enrollment in Program" shows as November 1, 2010, which is totally incorrect.

Anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if there's an extra month's grace period for the 24-month qualifying period, but my new qualifying period will actually begin November 1, 2012, but if I needed that extra month to qualify for the next status level, I could use mileage from that month for the previous period. That's just a guess though, and perhaps they have 25-month qualifying periods, not 24-months as their rules state. If I do start a new qualifying period on November 1, 2012, then they have a whole month in order to get my new card sent to me. Either way, it's not an issue for me personally being I travel through ICN at least a few times per month.

I'll be at ICN tomorrow morning, but maybe be a bit rushed for my flight. If not and there's not a major queue at the Asiana Club desk, I'll try to go there and ask them in person about this issue.

they said that there was no way for them to give me a card with the new expiry date (dec 31/14) until dec 1/12.

Curious, do you know that your new status period is from December 1, 2012 till December 31, 2014? That would again be 25 months, rather than 24 months. Interested to know if OZ actually told you this, and where/how, or are you just surmising that your new status will expire on that date?

One more point about them issuing your new card early...they don't know how many more miles you might fly until the end of the qualifying period. Even though you've already requalified for Diamond, you might travel a lot more and end up qualifying for Diamond Plus. So it makes sense for them to not issue your new card before the end of the qualifying period

They can also issue cards on the spot at Gimpo and Gimhae IME.
So if you happen to be in Korea around that time....

They have the card machine in the LA office too, the main one on Wilshire and Normandie.

that is very true -- i forgot about that. i just know that i'm pretty much done with the big trips until the end of the year lol. i also don't know that it's valid until dec 31, 2014 -- i just assumed as that has been the pattern so far on my card and on my account. (my first qualifying period was oct 1, 2008 - oct 31, 2010, then nov 1, 2010 to nov 30, 2012 ...). the counter on the website also refreshed along with that time frame, so i suspect that's the way it just is ...

Ok, I think I've got the answers to this from OZ.

For those who started with the new rules as of October 1, 2008, it was originally published that the status periods would be 24 months. But what actually happened is that the first and second periods were in reality 25 months, but starting from the next it will be just 24 months. So:
Period 1: Oct. 1, 2008 - Oct. 31, 2010
Period 2: Nov. 1, 2010 - Nov. 30, 2012
Period 3. Dec 1, 2012 - Nov. 30, 2014

And about the new cards, they will be issued about 2 weeks after your card expires. And you will not be able to get your new card until that time, even if you visit an OZ office that can make them on the spot. If flying OZ, it won't be a problem as your new status will be accessible to the agent via the computer system. But if flying another *A carrier, you may be denied services during that 2-week period being you won't have your new card. And of course, depending on the time to be delivered via mail, could be somewhat longer than 2 weeks. I don't know if OZ will issue any document verifying status or not, as some airlines do in this case. I also don't know for certain if other *A carriers will be able to see your new OZ status or not. It's not really an issue for me, being I've got two different *A G cards with other carriers as backups. But for someone with only the OZ card and traveling within the few weeks after your status expires, be aware that there could be some issues.

Is there a way to check on one's qualifying period? I think I signed up after the new rules became effective, but can't remember when. TIA.
