Avis - Camaro or C6 rental in Chicago? Avis? Hertz? O'Hare?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to rent a camaro or a c6 (if anybody knows) in the next couple weeks for a weekend or 24 hours depending on the $/day. I looked through a couple threads here on the forums and some of you guys are experts on renting cars from Avis, Hertz, etc. So if anybody can shed some light, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Does anybody know where to get the cheapest prices for a camaro around the Chicagoland area? Is it cheaper to not rent from an airport location like O'hare? Do they have camaro's at other locations besides O'hare? What's the best strategy to get the cheapest price? Which rental companies are cheapest? Should I use the rate code + coupon code or should I upgrade at the counter? How should I upgrade the car? e.g. Do I rent a subcompact and upgrade from there or use a printable coupon?

Lots of questions, lots of right answers. Thanks for your input everyone!

Kev

To find the cheapest rate, I think you're going to have to shop it around. I assume you have preferred and a corporate rate? Should be a pretty competitive rate. If not, there are some AWD codes on here that you'll be able to try out.

As for upgrades, I was upgraded from an Intermediate to a Camaro SS Conv last Oct in Monterey, CA. I was also offered a C6 over the summer for "just a bit more", but had to turn it down due to company policy... If you're Avis First, you can try renting a full-size and when you arrive request the corvette specifically and offer to pay a bit more.

If you can provide some more details, there are a couple ways that I would recommend going about this. I assume it's still going to be pretty darn cold in CHI when you rent, so you're chances may be favorable.

As noted before, you'll have to shop around via AWD's and locations for the time you're available.

See note above. But don't forget to take taxes/fees into consideration, which can make a large difference in cities/airports.

O'hare/Midway are your best bets for a specialty car. Downtown/off-site locations may have them (check Avis.com) but it's doubtful.

It's very doubtful (unless you're Chairman or maybe Pres Club) to upgrade to a Camaro at Avis. You can always try to book something relatively expensive (Premium/Luxury) and ask to upgrade at the counter and/or use a coupon. Upgrades are always "as available" so even if you have an upgrade coupon, it's not guaranteed. As for renting a subcompact, your best best is probably a midsize using an upgrade coupon without high status.. unless the location is out of anything smaller/better.

In all of my past trips I have not seen any Corvettes at ORD. I've never noticed any Cameros, but I haven't really been looking for them.

Thanks for everyone's input! Anymore would be greatly appreciated. What kind of details would you need? Thanks.

What is your Avis status and do you have an AWD with significantly reduced rates?

not an avis first but yea have deeply discounted awd codes and can back it up if needed at rental.
