KLM Flying Dutchman - ams - bey, why a weird pricing
Hi,
I'm trying to book ams-cdg-bey returns.
However any booking under a week gives me a price of around 930-970 (af - klm).
Booking the same flights but on separate tickets (ams- cdg and then cdg-bey) can give me a price of less than 650.
Any clue why such (in my opinion) stupid pricing?
Thanks :-)

Flight prices are calculated in order to maximize revenue based on expected demand, not on the basis of cost incurred by running a flight (which would be a very difficult task anyway).
Btw, we have loads of threads about pricing that seems to be counterintuitive at first sight. You might wish to search for them.
then it will be lufthansa :-(
btw why did the post get moved to klm specifically? The pricing problem I had was with both AF and KLM websites, not only KLM. Price was 970 with klm, 930 with AF

Because you specified AMS as the starting point.
By the way, Turkish Airlines comes in significantly cheaper than LH on that route (I'm seeing €421 as opposed to €557 on LH for stays of less than a week in February)
I saw that for turkish airlines, but I prefer to fly lufthansa (I'm also miles and more member). And they have good timings also.

Well, yes, the timings for BEY flights can sometimes be a problem indeed.
But don't forget that you can also collect miles on THY with your Miles & More account.

Check via MRS, alternatively get, somehow, to BRU and take the MEA flight if that saves anything.
I had checked MRS, however from AMS got no routing offered through MRS. Upon checking airfrance, they only fly 3 days a week msr-bey, and not the days we are interested in.
I guess the pricing issue is only related to a (imho) stupid decision to prevent any stay in bey less than a week if you fly from ams.
Thanks for the tip for mea from BRU. Looks good, however same price as LH.

It's actually down to 1/week until 25 March! Often A319 too...

It's because they (think they) can get more revenue from someone connecting from, say, USA or South America onto the BEY flight, so don't offer cheap fares from AMS where it would take up a seat, and getting a poor profit out of it.

Same price, but direct flight, if you get a train from AMS. Also, you can earn miles in Flying Blue. Depending on which LH flight you take, you will either leave AMS very early in the morning (if you can even have a same day connection to LH1306 from AMS) of arrive into BEY in the middle of the night.
Thanks for the idea :-)
Though not always practical to connect via BRU (have to take a train to brussels, and then change for a local train to the airport).
It's true that for LH, we'll land in the middle of the night, but at least we can leave in the evening after work (hum, leaving early from work ;-) )

Forgot to mention that MEA is a longhaul cabin in a shorthaul aircraft (AVOD in all seats etc).
But LH timings are actually better in your case, LH997 & LH1308 outbound to have a full workday in AMS, and on the return if you can get LH1307 & LH1002 you won't arrive in the middle of the day in AMS (can have full day in AMS from the day after you arrive).
