Best Western Rewards - Best Western Hotel Kyoto

Planning a trip to Japan next month. Searched to see if anyone had posted a review of the Hotel Kyoto, but got no hits.

Has anyone stayed here?

There is fairly low activity here, compared to the number of BWs in the world.

The dominant hotel review site, TripAdvisor, however has 22 reviews:

I stayed there last December and I liked the hotel very much (great location, good breakfast, nice upgrade for Diamond) but the security was awful. At the time (may have now changed) the key card had the name of the hotel AND my room number pre-printed on it so if I had lost my key or had my bag stolen, anyone could have easily accessed my room. There was no safe in room. Worst of all, a watch was stolen from my room. It was not expensive (just a Swatch) and the Japanese are generally pretty honest people so I had left it out on the desk without thinking twice. Bad on my part for not locking it in my suitcase but... I mentioned it to the front desk and completed the BW email hotel survey which I assume goes to the hotel manager; never heard a word about their follow up to that situation nor an apology.

I would probably return to the hotel but I would be very very very careful to lock up anything in my suitcase that I didn't want to walk--and hope that noone stole my whole suitcase. I don't know why all hotels don't install a safe in the guest room.
