What can I say, it's inexcusable. I got a DUI the other day.

In California they take your drivers license immediately and give you a paper temporary license that is completely valid with no restrictions for 30 days, after which time the court system runs it's course and then your license is surly suspended.

So as of today I am still completely legal to drive without any restrictions for the time being and have not been convicted of a DUI, yet....

Any chance I will be able to rent from Avis using a photo ID and this valid paper temporary license that none the less states I am being charged with a DUI. I know I will be blacklisted once the DUI goes on my record but as of today it is not there yet.

I may try Enterprise since I think they are the most lenient on the issue but I have Avis Preferred and usually rent from Avis.

Since I already have on my flame proof underwear, I'll follow up. Avis did rent me the car on this trip, however it was an off airport site and a woman who 'knows me' from many previous rentals and I'm Preferred so she just gave me the car without re-verifying my ID. None the less, prior to arrival I pulled my CA DMV report and it showed 100% valid and unrestricted which is true for another few weeks. So I'm sure my dl is still clean in the Avis computers. Avis seems to focus on 'convictions' in their written policy and I have not been 'convicted' yet, however if they did ask to see my dl and I presented the scarlet letter adorned temporary paper license, I can't say how they'd react.

As for the consequences for my actions? I'm quite certain this is my last Avis rental for a number of years. The consequences are profound in many ways besides that, and I accept and face all of that that as the outcomes of my actions. It's indefensible. I know.

As for Canada? I presume I've been banned from there since 1989 for reasons unrelated to drinking. I visited Canada as a child in the 1970's and it was nice. Never been back since and I probably never will be.

You made a mistake, you're dealing with the consequences, people make mistakes. I wish the best for you. It's good to hear that you don't take the flaming seriously.

Folks, this one is answered and it's gotten a bit off-topic. In the future, please keep your posts positive, no flaming and keep the thread on-topic.

Cheers,
