Hello,
I will be in Rome for the first time next on week business for 2 days. I would like to pick up some nice men's leather dress shoes (preferable under $400) or a leather belt. Any recommendations? I would like to get something I cannot get back in the states. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
I can't give a recommendation but if you're looking for some great Roman clothes, have you considered (indeed budgeted more $$$) for a Brioni suit? I don't know if they might be available in certain outlets/liquidation boutiques, but I can attest to their impressive quality!

i looked for shoes in venice, bologna, florenceand a fourth place(maybe it was paris...close enough) all shoes i could find were from spain, macedonia, belgium, and so forth. i had no confidence the shoes i did see with an italian label were italian.
italy has a massive relabeling business.
i do recall seeing some shoes in the window in a bologna store a few years back with a price tag £1500000. that was about $1000 us. i recall some ecco sport shoes in venice that were $200us.
i looked for leather jackets, and they were 2-4x the usa prices. left the shopping to my wife.

Fabris, by piazza Della Rotunda, near tazza d'oro has much of what you are looking for. Davide Cenci would be my next stop. Good luckZ

While they're more focused on men's business attire (shirts, suits, etc.) you could definitely find belts and possibly shoes at Byron. If you're facing the Spanish Steps the store is just to your right.
You're better off in Florence for leather goods (IMHO).

Any place in particular in Florence?

:confused::confused::confused::confused: What sort of shoes cost £1.5 million (that's UK pounds, I suppose)?
Or did you mean €1,5 millions (that's Euro, used throughout the European Union)?
Or were you talking about 1.5 million Italian lira - a currency not in use for the last twelve years?

in the italian forum,, when you see that sign, you should know it is the italian lira. the lira in the last few years of existence traded for between 800LIRA and 1800LIRA for a US dollar. the verbal unit for everything was a milla, pronounced meela. that was 1000 LIRA.

I realize this OP is long gone with his one post, but for anyone with a similar objective of finding leather goods not available in the states, the post below from the blog Revealed Rome should be of use (it's a good blog IMO, by an expat living in Rome):
Looking for Leather in Rome? Head to Armando Rioda (http://www.revealedrome.com/2011/11/rome-shopping-for-leather-gifts-purses-wallets.html)

Ciao dawtips. How lucky for you to be shopping in Rome now, I see the € is trading right now at $1.23!
You don't mention that you want only items not found in the states, so it would seem Via Condotti and the adjacent streets would be what you're after with Gucci, Ferragamo, etc

Thanks sk3 but I am looking for something unique to the country/city. I'll take a look at the blog you linked.

Shoe making wasn't mentioned in that blog article, so if in fact there aren't men's shoes to be had there I would nonetheless think this "Armando Rioda" could be a good person to ask where you should go. Anyway, good luck.
