I've trolled through 4 years of posts, Le Meridian seems the favorite. I have points in most programs, and welcome suggestions on best place for 3 nights with my wife to enjoy the city. We are doing the canal boat tour one day, so being close to the departure point would be convenient. I imagine the old city another day, and a couple of good dinners will round out the trip.
We are flying into the local airport and out of the international one if that is of any influence.

Thanks

I've stayed at the Marriott in PC which was really nice. It's near all the nighlife and plenty of restaurants such that you can walk to most places. As for logistics to the Canal and Tucuman, most hotels are downtown so it will be a wash between them all.

I stayed at the Meridian last year. As a plat SPG member, got a room upgrade (room with a view). Room was nice. Nothing spectacular, but nothing bad either. Pool deck area small but nice.
The lounge was closed, but they comped our breakfast each morning.
I was with my senior citizen father, so the opaque bathroom windows with clear portals were a bit odd for us. Really don't need to see a clear view of the toilet.
Close to a couple good restaurants.
Do not use their taxis, as they are way more expensive. Go down the street and pick one up.

Le Meridien is my recommendation. Good logistical choice if you are renting a car (easy access to/from a major avenue that can connect you to both Tocumen Airport and the canal, highway to the Pacific beach resorts, etc.) Restaurants within walking distance on Calle Uruguay.

If you go to Casco Viejo neighborhood for dinner (Manolo Caracol, por ejemplo) take a cab as opposed to driving - confusing narrow unmarked one-way streets through a bad neighborhood before you arrive in Casco Viejo proper). Of course this advice applies to any hotel in PTY.
