Hi all,

Visiting India after many years so don't know which airline is good in terms of service and price.

I tried online face comparison site and it showed indigo as the lowest followed by spicejet. But don't know anything about these airlines.

Will be accompanying my mother who is handicap and need wheelchair.

if anyone has any experience or suggestion please advise.

indigo is probably the best llc in india so that would be a good option....if you want a full service carrier then go with jet....

If your main concern is with price, then 6E (Indigo) is probably your best bet. SG is pretty reliable as well.
If you don't want an LCC and would prefer full service carrier, then I personally would recommend Air India. Others would disagree and say that Jet Airways is better. Make sure to avoid JetLite and Jet Konnect - these are LCC subsidiaries of Jet Airways that are usually overpriced.

Anybody who recommends Kingfisher is likely on crack.

i took an ai flight from del-gua a couple of months ago....the air conditioning on the flight was malfunctioning....it was so cold that i couldn't feel my arms & legs mid way through the flight....& of course they had no blankets on the flight....

Others would disagree and say that Jet Airways is better.

while i have nothing against ai, jet is way better....

Anybody who recommends Kingfisher is likely on crack.

i couldn't have said that better myself....

Jet operates a full service flight to Guwahati.. If your looking at LCC, I'd pick Indigo.

Thanks for your responses and suggestions.

This might be a stupid question but what is the difference between a llc like Indigo vs full service like Jet?

llc are point to point carriers....you often have to pay for things like baggage, seat selection, food & drinks onboard....with a full service carrier all those things come for free....

An LCC will mean no frills - meals are for purchase, you will likely end up on a bus that will take you to a remote stand in the middle of nowhere to save on airplane parking costs, less legroom, pay for seat selection, excess baggage, etc.

A full service carrier, like Jet Airways or Air India will provide a meal, you will use a jetbridge or the plane will be a short walk away, seat selection/baggage will be included, etc.

Well, these things can happen on any airline. The problem was probably fixed relatively quickly (IST obviously...), but surely flying with a malfunctioning AC is better than a flight cancellation.

I have had nothing but good experiences with Air India in my many travels with them. Also, unlike Jet's inedible meals, Air India's food is truly top class.

Also, you mention that you will be traveling with your elderly mother...

I have found that Air India is very good with the elderly and young children. Jet Airways has also been decent in my experience.

The LCCs on the other hand tend to be less flexible...

If you are travelling with someone in a wheelchair I would suggest the 9W 615 flight which flies BOM-CCU-GAU but you won't need to change aircraft at CCU which will make it much easier.
I believe 6e flight also has the same benefit not sure about spice.
But avoid a flight that isn't a single plane through service through CCU (same flight number). CCU infra structure is awful and going through arrivals back through security with your mother will surely be a tiring and unpleasant experience vs staying on board the aircraft for 30 mins.

How or where can I find out which airlines and which flight are the ones where you do not have to leave the aircraft and layover is 30min. I believe it will all be connecting through Calcutta.

Jet's 9W619 definitely is the same aircraft with a 40 min layover in Cal.. Flown the route a few times.

Basically if it's the same flight number from BOM-GAU.. Your not changing planes.
