We were there this Sat nite on a BounceBack rate of $99. We arrived to a VERY surly front desk person who at ifrst refused to give us our breakfast coupons (its included in the bounce back rate) . We had to show her the printout of my reservatiojn( So glad I always carry those) Even tho I'm a (new) Hilton GOld there was no upgrade or so she said.(The hotel looked pretty empty judging by the cars in the p/lot and the activity - didn;t seem like there was convention there either..)

I had booked a non smoking room w/ King bed - when we got to the room it was two doubles. I called down to the desk and this very same unhelpful person said "your reservation didn;t specify" I SAID OK, well can I change to a room w/ a king bed...huge SIGH...all right I'll send someone up. CLick. We got switched to a room w/ one king, decent, nice view and quiet . No problems. As we we e there to visit our ill friend in SJ we left, returned about 9 PM. Go to watch a pay per vew movie - the OnCOmmand system doesnt work Call down and htey sent an engineer right away - tried severl things and switvhuing remote coltrols - no luck. OK we'll just watch TV> GO to turn in about 10:30 PM - turn dowm the bed - there are HUGE (OLD and DRIED BUT HUGE) bloodstains on the center of the sheets. I started gagging...We called the desk and they sent new sheets right away bbut I was appaled. There is NO WAY you could have made this bed and not seen these stains. As it was 10:30 and we were in our jammies we took the new sheets.

On checkout the next day I did tell the front desk ( a different person thankfully) and requested an adjustment. They were very gracious and took half off the bill. Except no one seeemed interested that the remote control /tv didn't work for movies or fo r checkout.

THE TWO PLUSES were:

they do GUARANTEE non smoking rooms
the breakfast in the restaurant was EXCELLENT with good strong coffee..

It's hard to believe similar rooms to ours...go for 400/night during conventions.

I have a hard time with the bloodstains so maybeI'm a little oversensitive ut jeez...

I stayed at San Jose Hilton on Jan 26 as a new Gold VIP. The rate was $99 for the bounceback weekend.

They had no problem upgrading me to Tower Level with lounge access though they told me that they rarely did it.

The room at 16th floor is very nice and quiet.

My suggestion is probably heresy in the Hilton forum, but if you want a really nice stay in downtown SJC, go across the street to the Fairmont. They have very reasonable weekend rates, and a regular room there is probably as nice or nicer than the Hilton Towers. Certainly the public spaces are a lot nicer. Personally, I find the San Jose Hilton a very sterile atmosphere.

Or the historic St. Claire...across the street from Hilton.

JerryFF, I wholeheartedly agree. Plus you can earn AAdvantage miles at Fairmont, so it's not a total loss, point-wise, that is.

Yep, Stayed there on Friday night and was told I couldn't have an upgrade, but the hotel seemed pretty dead.

Then they placed us in the room next to the ice machine and we had to ask to be moved. Both times the people at the front desk weren't helpful in the slightest. If it wasn't for the BT2YM promo I wouldn't have stayed there.

The Fairmont is nice and so is the De Anza down the street. The De Anza has a great little pantry that you can raid from 10pm till 6am or so...very cool bonus. Plus they're actually nice there.

I would just like to congratulate such a great property on HHonors compliance and doing extra to ensure that I enjoy every stay. I've stayed at this property about 10 times in the past 2 years and every single time except once I was upgraded to the Executive Floor and in that instance I was given access to the Executive Lounge without asking.

Once, I requested an extra pillow in my room. Ever since then I have received extra pillows in my rooms for every stay. I am amazed at their record keeping and desire to keep a satisfied customer loyal to their property.

I am staying at that property this weekend (Halloween) and as a lowly Gold I checked in and got room xx26. Not being on the Exec. Floor, I was kind of disappointed but didn't say anything because I got access to the lounge. When I arrived at my room it was a nice size 3-room suite with a great city view with huge windows. It was probably the best upgrade I've received as a Gold from any Hilton.

Only to my surprise later that night, I get a bottle of Champaign and Chocolate-covered Strawberries delivered compliments of the staff.

I've found even prior to this stay that the staff at this hotel has focused on HHonors compliance, attention to detail and customer satisfaction. I encourage anyone staying in the San Jose area to stay at this property.

I wish the Sacramento/Arden Fair Hilton did the same thing... I've gotten upgrades maybe half the time which is nice. Perhaps it's because I'm only silver.

I have stayed at the Doubletree a few times and did not like it nearly as much as the Hilton downtown. Upgrades were hit and miss there and it just didn't seem like anybody cared there. Plus, their executive lounge wasn't open on the weekends so overall I found the Hilton more attractive.

I just finished a three night stay at the San Jose Hilton and Towers. We were at a trade show held in the SJ Convention Center. The Hilton is attached to the convention center making it the perfect place to stay.

I was upgraded to the top Club floor corner room. The room was away from the aircraft landing pattern, was down the hall from the lounge, and had a spectacular view. The service in the lounge is one of the best in the US. Overall, a great stay.

MIKEM, I've stayed at the same hotel when I had work at the Convention Center, and I agree. The lounge had nice munchies and attention, the room was super, and once only, the restaurant breakfast staff was too busy watching TV - I managed to sort that out with them very quickly. :D It's a very nice hotel and ideally situated - plus free transport shuttle to the AMTRAK / Caltrain depot, and short distance to the airport.

In the Valley, can't imagine staying at any Hilton other than the Hilton Santa Clara. Great staff.

You would drive 10 miles rather than walk 100 yards?

Yep. But then I stay at the Hilton Santa Clara 50-60 nights a year and so the staff know me and treat me very well.
