Swiss International Airlines - Any chance for Swiss M&M status match from Spanair Star program?

As many of you might know, Spanair has ceased its operations, leaving many of their frequent flyers without a valid StarAlliance loyalty card. Some of us have asked for a status match from LH M&M, but they said "no" alleging that they do not provide status matches from other StarAlliance carriers. It is an answer that it does not seem very reasonable to me taking into account that Spanair does no longer fly, but that is what they said. My questions is: is there any chance that Swiss M&M would say yes or both programs are run by the same people and thus the answer should be the same?
itl be the same result as with "LH M&M" since the only difference of the two is that if you provide a swiss address you'll be a Swiss M&M as for a German or in this case Spanish address will result in you being handled as a LH M&M.
have you tried calling Spanair and ask them whats going to happen to FF? Might be worth a try?!

They are shutting the business down (about 4,000 employees laid off). Quite logically, their FF are the least of their worries. :(

I agree but sometimes the FFP are independent from the airline.
Typically, when an airline goes bust (Ansett, Swissair etc.) it leaves behind a chunk of attractive, high-yield traffic. I assume the same is true for JK. In this case, the other players in the JK markets will now be very busily crunching numbers on if and how they want to go after this "filet cut" of JK traffic.
Once they have decided on a strategy, I would expect targeted status match campaigns for Spanair Star Elite members to appear - be it from other Star carriers jumping into the breach, be it from other alliances.
In the case of Miles & More, the decision would be made at corporate level - there is no independent "Swiss" vs. "Lufthansa" Miles & More in this regard.
Star Alliance announcement:
"A lot of you have been asking about Spanair’s frequent flyer programme. With Spanair having suspended operations, SpanairStar is also suspended and collecting and redeeming miles in the programme is not possible until further notice. The future of the SpanairStar programme will be decided by the administrator overseeing the bankruptcy proceedings."
Wait and see... Surely if M&M don't offer a match, one other *A will offer something... :)

For me, it is pure common sense. Most of my flights are to EMEA destinations through a European hub. If they do not provide that status match, I might give a try to a competitive alliance.
