Any opinions on either of the hotels? hotlancer Sep 28, 03, 9:36 pm HGI is a much better deal. If you are a Diamond or a Gold, they have a great free breakfast + free parking + free airport transportation. Enjoy Auckland!! kawoh Sep 28, 03, 10:17 pm definitely go for the hilton garden inn lax/el segundo, plus free warm cookies each evening and free interent in their business centre PC. PremEx Sep 29, 03, 2:14 am Add to hotlancer's and kawoh's lists, coupons for free bottled water from the mini-store in the lobby, for Golds and Diamonds. HGI. TransWorldOne Sep 29, 03, 4:23 am OK, the Hilton Garden Inn may ply you with free junk, but the Hilton Checkers is a much nicer hotel. The Hilton Checkers is a great place to stay. The bottomline on this decision would be location. Do you want to do anything while in LA? If so, and said activity is downtown, go for the Checkers. Otherwise, stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. Bluehen1 Sep 29, 03, 8:19 pm Well, I'm there on an overnight before heading to New Zealand. I'm contemplating going out in West Hollywood or maybe Silverlake. Will likely have a rental car as my flight to NZ is pretty late. kawoh Sep 29, 03, 8:20 pm <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by PremEx: Add to hotlancer's and kawoh's lists, coupons for free bottled water from the mini-store in the lobby, for Golds and Diamonds. I asked about it and was told that they only give it out now if they can't give you an upgrade. Could be a confused desk clerk or a new policy. Dunno. In any case, my "upgrade" was not impressive. Also, if you stay at the HGI and are easily bothered by noise, take some earplugs. From my room I could hear jets out of LAX quite loudly, not to mention the various activities of neighbors on all sides. We had coupons for 4 bottles of water and the $5 pantry certificate. We really didn't need anymore water since we still had some from the plane so I asked if we could get drinks instead and they said fine, basically we got credit for the waters to use towards other beverages. I think we got two Cokes and an orange juice in place of four waters. The $5 pantry coupon was great too because they had Planters nuts bags that were pre-priced at $.99 which is what they were selling them for instead of the $2.00 or whatever it is for a candy bar. We just got 5 bags of peanuts and cashews. The breakfast there was very good too. I'd give them a big thumbs up. Bluehen1 Oct 30, 03, 6:26 pm Well, I'm back from the HGI and let me tell you.. it was one of the best rooms I've ever stayed in. And at a rate of $69/nt. I was upgraded to one of the "Technology" rooms (I know they have another term for them but I can't remember it). Since I'm a bit of a gadget freak, this was fantastic. It had the plasma screen with remote that also controlled the lights, curtains, and screen. A jacuzzi tub with the small plasma type TV. A shower that was operated electronically allowing you to set the temperature to the exact degree you like. In addition, there was a massage chair in the room. When checking out, the manager of the hotel asked me if I enjoyed playing around in the room. I told her it was a blast and mentioned that I would definitely stay there again. BTW, the high speed internet was free. |
