I'm traveling to Amsterdam, Bruges and Paris this April and I booked apartments in the cities at airbnb.com. The one in Paris is near the Bastille and very convenient. Check it out.

Actually 2 new people makes me think this is a ploy to advertise a company.

Maybe it is an advertising ploy, but I do agree airbnb.com is great resource for finding short term rentals.

in 09 i used paris attitide to book an apartment. they had over 1000 listings and let you select by area, price, size, we ended up with a great place.

we used vbro to book a last minute apartment this summer. the place was ok, too small for your rqmts.

my suggestion would be to stay in any of the single digit arr. we were around st germain, and walked all around (with 2 kids)...

Yep, and anyone who is tempted should check out some recently publicized horror stories in the news about listings and money being sent to someone with no legal claim to the apartment, substandard housing lacking hot water, etc.

Being new to this forum has nothing to do with this. She wanted recommendations. I supplied my experience.

I used http://www.welcome2france.com/ a few years ago and got a very nice place at a reasonable price in Le Marais. Now I'm a status whore so I stay at hotels but this was a really good deal especially for a group.

edit: my 1000th post!

Parisperfect is one of the best agencies. They have high end apartments in the 7th which is a residential area. Most are close to the Champs de Mars and the Eiffel Tower.

You will not have any negative surprises. My sister rented one for two weeks last March and I am renting one for a week later this month.

PM if u want contact info.

High end definately but is OP looking to stay within a budget?OP didn't state a budget. That's why I was clear that these were high end, so that if they have a low budget they won't waste their time with this agency. But the no negative surprises is worth something. And their prices quoted prices include everything, while VRBO adds a commission and other fees and tale no responsibility if the owner takes months to return your security deposit.

Also, since my initial post they informed me that there would be elevator work in the building in which I rented and offered me a discount or another similar apartment. We chose to take another of their apartments. I suspect that most other agencies would just have let us arrive in Paris and then they would be shocked to learn that the elevator was out of order.

I never like to pay more than I have to but have learned that you get what you pay for.

I have rented many houses and apartments from VRBO.com and there were no commissions or fees added for any I've rented. For the majority, I haven't even paid a security deposit. When I have, it's been cash that was returned the day I checked out.

Just check the rentals carefully and use a credit card.

Point noted about the commission. We rent a beach house through VRBO which is listed by the rental management company for the community in which it is located. We pay a commission of about 5% which is called a reservation fee. Properties rented directly by owners would have no such fee.

Hi, I'd recommend Bridgestreet Champs-Elysées Apartment (http://www.booking.com/hotel/fr/bridgestreet-champs-elysees.en.html?aid=312311) This was a great location, and a bigger flat than expected. The instructions were very easy to follow and we were delighted with our stay. I will definitely look for serviced apartments as they are very good value for a group of people.

First time posters, as above, recommending apartments make me suspicious of a ploy.

I've successfully rented Paris apartments twice in the past. But things seem to be falling apart with lots of problems of misrepresentation, scamming your money, all kinds of ugly stuff in the news last 60 days. Major "not my fault" issues with agencies that handle the rentals.

An apartment is a dream come true. Just be sure you use a credit card and don't wire any cash anywhere. Have a nearby hotel's phone number just in case. Hopefully you will be happily sipping champagne in your wondeful apartment and won't need the hotel.

I have used this company on several occasions.
http://www.parisrentaparts.com/
The apartments are standard and none of them have a/c.
They are well equipped and the locations of most of them is very nice
Much cheaper than a hotel room in the same area.
You can PM me if you want to know which apartment I have rented.

For the OP's case of a one week stay (with no obvious expertise regarding Paris), I would suggest an apartment-hotel chain like Citadines. Not charming but serviceable and no hassles after a long flight. In fact, I would suggest using a regular hotel, but finding rooms for four in Paris can be a challenge and needing two rooms becomes more expensive, which I suspect is the motivation for the apartment.

Just booked through them. We list our Kauai condo on VRBO, so it would only make sense to use them. They don't seem to have some of the outrageous additional fees that some other sites doo.

A bit late, but +1 on this, we've rented apartments from ParisPerfect several times over the last few years and always found it very smooth going. Not necessarily the cheapest, but decent value and nice places.

Sadly seems OP's only post was on this topic and they haven't come back to update us on what, if anything, they decided upon.

While I'm posting I'll add a shameless plug for clickappart (http://www.clickappart.com/) as I returned a few weeks ago from a 10 night stay in a small 24 sq m unit on Rue de Gros Caillou, which is a few short blocks off the Champ de Mars. This apartment, more here (http://www.clickappart.com/apartments/apartment/details/id/57), is ground floor on a quiet sidestreet, had nice modern utilities like washer/dryer, a larger double bed and loads of storage space in tall wardrobes on either side of a flat screen TV. Overall a very nice apartment in a wonderful location I'd highly recommend.

I'd chosen clickappart as they applied the deposit and balance once in the unit to a CC, saving the need for a bank draft or paying in cash like other rental agencies. The rates were quite good and the unit was exactly as advertised. The staff was helpful and the rep. I was meeting at the unit even stayed longer while this poor traveller ran a little late getting in from CDG. A very positive experience and I'm glad I opted to rent an apartment as I really enjoyed the experience more than I would've at a hotel.

A related thank you to FTer willie -- wonka for graciously answering all my questions about rental location, costs, features, etc. and it was meeting and nice dining together with two other FTers at the Brasserie Balzar. :)
