Oceania (Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific) - Auckland Airport questions

Two families flying from LAX to Auckland, with three hour layover before flight to Nelson.
- is walk from Intl to Dom terminal manageable (might be good exercise) or will kids (7 and 11) be annoyed?
- which terminal is best for getting a decent breakfast? (we expect to sleep through the meal service on the plane)
- is it worth visiting the airport shopping center, and how hard is it to get to?

Na walk is small, 10 minutes max.
McDonald's is probably your best option, which is in both terminals.
The shopping centre is not worth the hassle
For food, I'd go back upstairs to the International Terminal. More options there. The domestic terminal has a smaller food court. The only issue is whether the shops are open as I think if you land early in the morning. However, as mentioned, Maccas are everywhere and open all the time.
The walk is good exercise, particularly after a long flight. Follow the line on the footpath. I may even be fun for the kids. If the weather is bad, there's a free bus.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'd like to think there's a better option -- I don't go to McDonald's here.

I'm not a fan of McD, but feel compelled to point out that it is substantially different (and better quality) in NZ and Australia than in the US (for example the McCafe started in Australia, and is better than Starwoods most of the time). The problem with AKL is not enough traffic to support good restaurants, so "better" options are problematic. Qantas Club has the nicest brekky that I've found at AKL (but that doesn't help you).

Starwoods? You meant Starbucks, right?

My experience is quite the opposite, not that I spend much time in McDonald's anywhere.
