Ostensibly in an effort to fight global warning, they are quick to reduce aircraft weight, e.g. by installing less heavy seats, with scant regard for comfort.

But when there is money to be made . . . .

I can only assume these so-called "tax-free" sales are profitable, but I cannot recall when I last saw anybody purchase anything, on any airline.

You want to get on a flight to LAD then. The Angolans tend to empty the duty free cart of all its contents with wads of dollar bills in exchange whether coming or going to LAD. Admittedly its not usually smokes or booze though. This is AFTER being in duty free shopping for three hours in DXB for example! There is definitely a market for duty free sales to some locations, but must admit to being a bit baffled by anyone that buys stuff on board having just left massive duty free stores in hubs airports!

Try flying on BA or Virgin - they have HUGE inflight duty free sales.

British Euroscepticism was born the day intra-EU duty free sales were abolished. :)

Yeah that doesn't shock me either. Then of course they have to bribe the chaps at the red channel in the airport to allow said tomatoes into the country and the economic wheel keeps turning!
