Has anyone had much experience with Priceline? More specifically has anyone ever gotten a fare for say for about $500 when the lowest fare anywhere else for that same trip was about $1200 to $1300 round-trip? Do you think $500 may be a little low?-Thanks!

Hi joe7777,
Did you read the response to your other question?

Welcome to Flyertalk! As Spiff has noted, FT is not the place to buy or sell airline miles. It is, however, an excellent place to learn all about earning and redeeming your frequent flier miles so would encourage you to learn more by reading the thread sticky which explains how this forum works:

I invite you to read the thread linked above, since you misunderstand the Mileage Run Deals forum.

Please note that there is an entire subforum for anyone interested in Priceline and similar travelbidding/booking options. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/online-travel-booking-bidding-agencies-204/
I have moved yoiur question OUT of Mileage Run Deals, since that forum is ONLY for sharing specific, relevant, miles-earning fares. As stated HERE. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mileage-run-deals/454485-welcome-mileage-run-forum-important-information-how-mr-forums-work.html

Good luck with your search for answers. There is a lot of information on FlyerTalk, you just need to spend a moment looking in the existing threads and using the menu to move to different forums here.

You're welcome; please look for another place on FlyerTalk for these kinds of questions, since there are lots of areas which will already have the information you seek. Just read Mileage Run Deals and the information thread first, so that you understand how this forum works.

Cheers

Yes, $500 for a $1200+ fare undoubtedly is low. Priceline suggests 40 to 60% savings, but on hotels it varies anywhere from more than that to actual negative by a little. One never knows.

Airfares don't seem to work as well as they used to, but people do report successes. The only way you will know for sure for your particular situation is to actually bid it. You can certainly start your bidding at well less than 50%. The bidding process is free.

My son has bid airfare successfully in the past - MSP/AMS. I don't know exactly what his savings were, but probably more like 20% to 30%.

If you'd like a little bidding advice and to see some actual reported results, you might check www.betterbidding.com. But I encourage you will be a good sport, using their links for bidding and reporting your results there also.

As BiziBB said you should do some reading. I know it can be slow, but you'll learn alot more. I think I was probably a member for 2-3 months before I found all the threads, but they are there. Welcome to FT there's alot of good information out there. The answer to the other question you had is no, way much to lose.

You can certainly try to undercut it by that much, but I don't think you have much chance of it being accepted. Flights are pretty full, and people are willing to pay more, so the deals through Priceline for airfares ain't what it use to be.
