I know its been a few months now since Etihad "revamped" their mileage program. I'm curious to know if any members here are happy with the changes?
I for one see it as negative for the most part - I'm sure this depends on each members typical usage of mileage awards. I mostly use them for economy award tickets for the family for vacations, as opposed to upgrades. From what I can see, over 90% of Etihads destinations now require substantially greater miles to redeem. For instance, my wife and I went from Abu Dhabi to Paris in December, on an award ticket booked before the changes. We needed 40k miles each. Now it requires 59k miles, thats a huge jump up, almost 50%!
I had decided to stick with Etihad last year, am currently silver and with next weeks travel should hopefully be gold. However, I'm having fairly serious reservations about staying with them, given the much higher miles needed with the modified system.
Would like to hear thoughts from other members, and more optimal ways to use miles.
Thanks!
