This is part of a set of promotions that has been discussed in depth both in and out of the consolidated promotions thread. This is not even the first thread you started about this offer: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/club-carlson-formerly-radisson-goldpoints-plus/1279518-earn-9-000-gold-points-global-car-rentals-plus-save-up-20-until-31-12-2011-a.html

I still prefer the budget version since it gives 5,500 points for 2 day rentals as well as 9,000 points for 3 day rentals. Plus budget is often cheaper.

I just did read the three links you gave, and in none of them can I find a mention of anything about this promo working in 2012.

Please point more specifically to which exact post in those threads mentions it.

Furthermore, are you even sure it got extended, or could it instead have been repeated? It was on the Club Carlson site until the end of December, and then in early January it disappeared from the Club Carlson site. I thus yet see no evidence that it was "extended" (in the sense of never having gone away), I only see evidence that it's returning (as in the sense of restarted after a gap in time).

(The website linked in post 1 gives no mention of a start time, only "from now until".)

I still prefer the budget version since it gives 5,500 points for 2 day rentals as well as 9,000 points for 3 day rentals. Plus budget is often cheaper.
As documented in one of threads you linked, the Avis version had the lower points option for 2 day rentals too. So if there's now only a 3 day 9000 point option at Avis, it can't be an "extension" of the previous promo!

(But is there no 2 day Avis version with 5000ish points, or have we just not found it yet?)

I'm Avis Preferred (actually Avis First) but have not rented with Budget since they insituted FastBreak. So having to use Budget for a 2-day rental sounds like a downside for me (since first Preferred reservation at Avis requires checking in at a counter to show your drivers license, I presume the first FastBreak reservation at Budget does also).

This post from early January 2012 directly addressed the issue.

Thank you and bostonbali for bumping the thread, the links I originally posted now link to an updated offer that hasn't expired like the original versions.

I've used the 9,000 point version twice, the points posted 3-4 weeks later, but the postings were backdated to the day the rental began. As others posted if you are charged for 3 days (with the linked BCD) you get the 9,000 points even if you only rent for 50 hours.

I doubt you can change the BCD on return, but I've never tried.

(But is there no 2 day Avis version with 5000ish points, or have we just not found it yet?)

We do not currently have a valid link to a 2 day Avis version. Furthermore the only 2 day Avis version we had was for 5,000 points vs 5,500 with Budget.

Not at all. Only one of the three threads you linked to (requoted above) has posts for January 2012, and that thread is specific to and exclusive to the Budget promos, not the Avis promo(s).

So I see nothing that you've pointed out where the Avis 9000 promo was previously discussed as having been "extended" past Dec 31. (Maybe it was discussed, maybe it wasn't, but it sure isn't in any of the three threads linked above.)

We do not currently have a valid link to a 2 day Avis version. Furthermore the only 2 day Avis version we had was for 5,000 points vs 5,500 with Budget.
The problem is that the original poster never provided a link to the original 5000 points Avis promo.

Another poster provided only links to filled-in-forms with the coupon.

In the Avis forum, they started a similar thread:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/avis/1281320-ree-day-carlson-hotel-9000-points-avis-3-day-rental.html

in which I finally found that there was a splash page on the Club Carlson site.

But that splash page (http://www.clubcarlson.com/fgp/earn/home.do) no longer has info on any big Avis or Budget promos. These promos appear to be "hidden" right now (you can't find them on any Avis "partner promos" page nor on any Club Carlson "partner promos" page).

That makes it hard to tell whether there's an Avis version for 2 days (at 5000 or 5500 points or whatever).

To me, the easy of using Avis Preferred is worth 500 points to me. (And I only have one rental coming up, 2 days, during the "extended" period, so it's not worth for me to set up a new Budget account just for that, given that like I said you don't get to "skip the counter" on your first rental in one of these "skip the counter" programs, only from your second rental on.) And on this particular rental I need to do (in March), I need to be out on the road as quickly as possible.

UPDATE: I tried the original 3-day coupon for 3+ days in March and it says "coupon accepted". I tried the original 2-day coupon for 2 days in March and it says:

•The Coupon Number you provided has expired. Please check the terms and conditions or remove it to continue with this reservation.

So it seems as if the 2-day version doesn't exist at Avis. Drat. I now have to look for the next best promo from some other Avis partner (assuming they don't restart a Club Carlson promo that's valid on just 2-day rentals).

So you are arguing for three different threads for the Avis promotion, separate threads for the Budget version, no cross referencing with the consolidated promotion thread and a new Exclamation tagged thread for each change in conditions?

It is clearly one set of promotions that are not substantially different from one another and do not need stand alone threads. I never said there was anything wrong with posting that the extension applies to one or all of the related offers in one of the threads would be wrong or that updates on the current rolling end date of the promotion are unwarranted.

But single post threads that don't even link to the previous discussion is not a practical format. There have been multiple questions about how these promotions work, any updates to the promotions should be part of the threads that answer these questions.

I am not the moderator in this forum. Is there a moderator in this forum? Only a moderator can merge threads.

I never argued about whether this should or should not have been a separate thread. I only argued about whether the extension to the Avis 9000 promo was documented in another thread, which you claimed it was, and it clearly wasn't.

I agree that it might be a good idea to merge some of these thread, but unless there is someone around to do it, and unless merging similar threads is the policy in this forum (different forums have different policies regarding things like that), I'm not sure what talking more about that will do.

My complaint actually is not much that that multiple threads exist, but that they are poorly titled. The OP who started this thread about the promo being good until April 2012 did not put that in the title, but used the exact same title as for the previous thread (when it was good until Dec 2011). I agree that if there was not going to be a new title, it should have gone in the previous thread. I do think there might have been a valid reason for starting a new thread, but only if you were going to give the thread a new title explaining that the new expiration date.

Boy, do we miss Evan!, huh? Talk about one thread for it all, the quarterly car rental promos for all car rental companies and all of their partners thread he used to do in the MilesBuzz! forum was fantastic. The splinter into zillions of separate threads has seemed to have escalated since that unified car rental promos thread went away...

Tried two experiments. The first one seems successful: The 9,000/3 days landing page came up and permitted booking. In the second, I mixed a Groupon AWD with the coupon given here/on the landing page. Had to start over, but the system didn't choke, or give a red expiry notice. We'll see.

The other issue I always deal with, even starting from scratch, is that the system goes in and substitutes all my profile preferences for whatever I've put in for the present rental. I mean eve when I don't enter my Avis First #. (I forgot to change my profile preferences to reflect this promo. Gotta do that right now. Hope it's not too late.)

Oh, and one more thing. Discovered that the field is not long enough for the whole CC number on the printed contract. Also says "GP/10 numbers". Gold Passport?! Back up to the desk. Fortunately no queue. Agent volunteered to show me what was on her screen. It was all* there, and correct. :)

Anyway, maybe this digression isn't needless if some can use it. :)

* (Except my Avis First # ^. Again, we'll see.)

The info is the last place you would look: right on the main page of the Club Carlson -> Earn section! They make it very easy! Although it only says 9k for 3 day rental, when you click on either Budget or Avis links, the page explains and gives codes/links for the 2 day rental.

Avis offers 6k and Budget offers 5.5k for a 2 day rental.

Now in the middle of my fourth and fifth experiments with different AWD numbers in conjunction with the Avis 2- and 3-day coupons. With the exception of the common "delays" in posting (which may be more about me) so far so good. All have come through. A three day rental = a free night at a couple of places where I want to stay? Doesn't get a whole lot better than this, IMO. Bravo, Carlson, once again. As I've said - OK, proclaimed - on a couple of other boards: Carlson wants me.* What a sleeper program. ^

One piece of advice I'd like to reiterate, not just in this instance, if you're an Avis Preferred or First, be sure that your profile info aligns with this promo (or whatever promo you desire) or things might get complicated. I had done so for this round, but just had an especially helpful Avis counter CSR ask me if I had.

IME, if my profile doesn't have the promo's numbers in it, my First/Preferred account will override the promo and populate my reservation with my previous AWD etc. information. So, if I don't confirm what I want in the reservation at pickup, I'll later wonder why my current promo bennies haven't come through. Then I'll look over in another airline or hotel account, and find 50 miles from the more recent rental, for example, because the promo numbers I'd put in before still rule because I'd never changed them after the prior rental, and that promo had ended. I've even had problems when I tried to confirm at return, and the agent said he didn't know how to fix it at that point. It can be a big hit when one has done all the right things, one thought, to get, say, 9,000 hotel points.

Aren't you guys getting receipts (physical and/or e-receipts) for your rentals?

All mine from this promo clearly said: Miles/points earned were either 6000 (2-day) or 9000 (3-day).

Now, getting them to post to the Club Carlson site in a timely manner, that is a separate question (as discussed upthread). But the receipt/e-receipt itself should be enough to verify that it was indeed Club Carlson bonus points you earned (or not, if it shows you earned something else like a dreaded "50" instead).

No, mine do not show that. But they do show most of my Club Carlson number, which I've come to understand is enough to confirm that I'm good (as I was shown by a RA who turned her screen around to show me that, although there aren't enough spaces in the receipt printer's field, there are where it counts). So, why the big complaint, one might ask? This was not so much a complaint as to pass along lore and tips about the broader issue, which has been reported broadly on these boards.

Printer?

What about e-receipts? I get those whether I get a printed receipt or not, and on my last couple rentals where I earned this bonus (at least per the receipt), all I got was the e-receipt because it was at a small airport where the Avis counter wasn't open yet at the time I took an early-morning flight. The e-receopt was sent soon after they opened for the day and processed the stuff in the drop box.

Sometimes they tell you that you will get an e-receipt and it never comes. At the Charleston airport, there was an accident outside of the airport causing a huge delay, so I was running late. I didn't have time to wait for a printed receipt, so they said I would get one via email. It never came. Luckily the 9,000 points posted, although it was at least 3 weeks later.

Physical receipts don't show anything. E-receipts do show a Frequent Traveller Number and Promo code. Unfortunately, like Firewind's experience, they aren't always matching. In one case, it must have been a typo as I can't find that promo code now.

I think the way to figure out whether it applies to only the AWD or the coupon (that gives the bonus miles) is to try a booking during the blackout period and enter the coupon, and see whether it says "coupon accepted" or something else. (It always says "coupon accepted" for me when the coupon is valid, and I've gotten something else, I forget how worded exactly, when I've in the past tried coupons which were not valid for the country I was renting in for the dates I was renting.)

It says this on an early page in booking process, so you don't have to complete the booking to see what it thinks of the coupon.

Very confusing. I just opened the 2-day 6000-point page again:

http://www.avis.com/car-rental/html/partner/carlson/gppelite.html?MID=avis.com_gppelite2011

and realized it says at the top:

Elite Members: Save up to 25% plus earn 6000 Gold Points on 2+ day rentals gloabally

But nothing in the T&Cs says you have to be a specific elite level to use this promo.

Is it really limited to Club Carlson elite members since the extension?

I have no status with Club Carlson (only whatever status they call no status :) which I doubt is "elite"), but I have received this 2-day bonus (but it was in an earlier cycle, in which I think the landing page was different and I think it was fewer points, like 5000 or 5500).

The 3-day 9000-point page:

http://www.avis.com/car-rental/html/partner/carlson/cc_9000.html?MID=avis.com_cc9000

doesn't say anything about Elite Members, and this is the only one I've used so far since the extension.

Thanks for the idea. Using your suggestion, it appears the coupon code for the bonus points will not be accepted. The AWD does reduce my particular rental by about 10%. I've got a really good rate with this promo in Bordeaux and my rental has that Coupon Code is attached. So I think I'll still give it a try.

sdsearch, I can confirm that I've earned the 6,000 into a non-elite account, recently.

And, FWIW, to anyone watching this thread, I suggest that these two promos are good ways to build a bank of points to then use for points + cash stays to then earn the "50,000" (net 45,000) points in the big promo, where the point requirement is 5,000. Just a @:-) for those who haven't @:-) of it.

Except I suggest aiming for at least 10,000, since where I'm staying before the promo ends there were few Radisson choices, and the only half decent rate was 10,000 points for the points part of the points + cash. So I "only" got net 40,000, but I'm not crying over that. :) I also got 44,000 net for an all-money CI&S, and I'm planning to also get 44,000 net for an all-money (but booked during the 30% off sale a couple weeks ago) Park Inn. (Plus I got 50,000 net for an all-money Radisson back in December during the first Big Night Giveaway, being able to use a 25% or 30% back then too.) That, plus a handful of the Avis rentals, plus the normal earnings plus the online booking bonuses on these 4 stays, will take me well over 200k by the end of July (my Park Inn stay is in the middle of July), since I already have about 175k points, without my last Avis 9000 having posted yet, plus another Avis 9000 rental coming up weekend after this one.

This is an immediate tipoff on the promotion page:

Blackout dates for Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East: 12/16/11 - 1/4/12, 3/31/12 - 4/15/12, 7/1/12 - 8/31/12.

I also remember a similar issue iwith some (forget which) airline coupon last time I rented with Avis in Europe in July/August (in 2010).

So, yes, it does appear it's common for those regions with Avis. I'm not sure whether other rental companies (not in the AvisBudget group) have similar summer overseas coupon blackouts or not. Every time I've rented from Hertz overseas I've had trouble getting miles posted period, let alone worrying about coupons. But those were all "esoteric" locations -- a small town in Japan where it was actually their partner Toyota Rent a Car, Bergen Norway (BGO airport), and Salta Argentina (SLA airport).

Just to clarify: This is at:

www.avis.com

not at some other Avis site. Avis has lots of sites, and I don't know whether you can enter a Carlson number at all of them. But i've been entering it at www.avis.com since late last year, and it's always been there. (I should qualify: I make all my Avis reservations logged in with my Wizard number. I have no idea if the reservation process is different for those not logged in.)

However, the name of the program has always been "scramled" (ie, not updated to "Club Carlson" cleanly), and thus could be hard to find.

Jeez, folks. Does everyone here have ADD? The T&Cs say it might take a few weeks for points to post. I had a rental from four weeks ago that had not yet posted. If I had followed this thread religiously, I might have had a cow by now.

Fortunately, I've done a number of rentals from Avis during this promotion. Sometimes the points post in a couple of weeks; sometimes, it takes more than a month. After seeing this thread today, I thought I'd check the rental from four weeks ago. Amazing! The points just posted.

Of course, I had a rental through Avis this past weekend. I guess I should be frantic that the points from THAT rental haven't posted yet.

Or, I could just understand this is the way the system (or systems since I'm dealing with two: both Avis and Club Carlson) works, and expect that, probably by August 15, I'll see another 9K in my CC account.

Honest to goodness, this is a game for the long run. If you don't have the patience to wait for points to post, find something with instant gratification--like getting a free sandwich at Subway using your punchcard after buying ten subs.

Club Carlson has no other offers than these (which are valid in Europe, just not in Jul & Aug), and it's Avis/Budget (not Club Carlson) that blacks out Europe for Jul & Aug. As mentioned before, I've never been able to use any offer from any Avis partner in Europe in Jul or Aug of any previous year.

So if you want a car rental with an offer, you have to settle for some other car rental company and some other airline or hotel partner that has some offer that works in Europe in Jul/Aug. You might start here:

http://www.frequentflyerbonuses.com/carbonus.html

but you'll have to read each offer to see whether it exclused the time you want to rent in Europe or not.

For me, it took over eight weeks after my earliest rentals in the promotion. But I still have the hypothesis that we jammed the system during its earliest days. Reports here regarding the most recent rentals are that they went through within days, or at the interval of a normal sweep.

EDIT: I am sorry. I had one of those mind things... I was talking about the 3000/5000 Avis => AA promotion here. I still have not received the CC points for this one in over seven weeks. Apologies for misleading.

Using the "wrong" AWD does matter sometimes. I've been using AWD A515100 right along, for this and that promo. Looong wait for the generous Avis|AA promo's AA miles to post, but post they did, recently.

Well, well, well... Nothing in ~12 weeks for one rental, nothing in more than two weeks in a second, in my Carlson account. What appears to be a couple of sweeps having gone by, as people are reporting here, I threw in the towel and called. Carlson wouldn't accept because I used the wrong AWD, even though the coupon code was correct and my "GP" number was on the reservation. Saddest, I could have used the earlier one for AA miles instead.

Are you saying that using AWD A515100 will result in the Club Carlson bonus points not posting? As far as I know that and AWD A515129 are the only valid HP rate codes.

Was this in the terms somewhere that I missed? All I see is
"Offer may not be used with any other coupon, promotion or offer except your AWD discount." which would imply that any AWD discount code would work (as opposed to "except this AWD discount.").

Despite my using and touting A515100 here, it is what I'm saying. It worked for the Avis=>AA promo, though it wasn't the one listed for it. It did not work for this one, I am very sorry to say. Moreover, had I jumped (called) sooner on what I thought was just a delay on the transfer for this one, I wouldn't have touted it here for so long, and perhaps led less people on. Thank you for the information.

The AWD wasn't used because of your touting, but because it really is an HP corporate rental. Good to know it doesn't work for this one and to move on to others for which it works.

Still waiting for other points to post also. Avis keeps on sending free weekend rental days, so I'm guess something is wrong even though it shows other programs in the rental receipt.

I made the reservation and there was no place to put in the Club Carlson # so I asked at the desk when I picked up the car and he could not find Club Carlson. So I ended up calling Avis later and they had no idea what I was talking about. Thankfully, I came across this post and asked her to put in GB and the whole Club Carlson number and it accepted it.

Reservation was for October 11, 2012 and the 9000 points showed up today. I used the MUHA015 and my own AWD and had no problem getting the points. I feel confident enough to get the other 7500 for an upcoming rental, which will get me the last 6000 points we need for 2 rooms for 5 days in London in May. :)

Thanks everyone!

Ike
