Does El Al weigh luggage as you board the plane?

I was planning on taking on board a rollerboard and backpack. According to the El Al website, the weight limit will mean I have a 1/2 empty bag or I'll exceed the allowance.

Also, will I be allowed to carry a backpack in addition to my (1/2 filled) roller board? The agent I spoke with said I could bring a "pocketbook" but alluded that a backpack would not fall under that category.

Advice?

How large is the backpack? There are very small ones that really are like a pocketbook and then there are larger ones, which are really luggage. Deep down you probably know which category your is in.

I Believe this will answer your question:
http://www.elal.co.il/ELAL/English/AllAboutYourFlight/BeforeYourFlight/LuggageAndBaggage/CarryOnLuggage.htm

Regarding if the weigh or not..., If they will see it they might ask you to weigh so the best is normally to try and hide it (means if you come to the counter, make sure your hand luggage is not on the trolly, put it between you and the desk (so its not so visible to the check-in personal or ask a friend to hold it while you are doing the check-in).

If you ever wonder what will happen if you go to the plane and it doesnt fit the cabin, They will probably check it for you and wonder "who the heck gave you to pass check-in with such luggage".

if the backpack is small, it should be o.k
if you have a laptop, then you can tell them its your briefcase.
Otherwise, they may weigh both.
