Is that daily R/T and not a seasonal? I'm sure those route will done extremely very well. I wasn't thinking about YXY is too extremely expensive.

It seems the equipment overnights YXY daily, May 17 to Aug. 29..

4N has capacity between YYC and YEG, but does not actively market.

Can you elaborate, please?
I tried to book that on the Air North website, but I could not find any connections on that route. Neither did the ITA Matrix when I put in C:4N+.
TNX
4N flies YXY-YYC-YEG-YXY.
Middle segment not for sale.

Ah I C. So it is not even passively marketed. :-)
Would you know why?

I used to commute on this route (YVR-YXY) once a quarter.
The fares were always outrageously expensive (due to a lack of competition probably) and of course the equipment on AC was a CRJ that was always full (especially in winter with all the coats)
I did fly the Air North service once on their 320's but of course no status miles with AC and they only had 3 aircraft if I recall so schedules were not always convenient. At the time, they were looking working towards a codeshare arrangement with Westjet. It would seem that those talks were not successful which is bad news for Air North.

A little extra rev for walk up pax YYC-YEG one way? I wonder if is operationally expensive to on/offload baggage for just that sector?

They could offer "strictly no luggage" tickets.
I know that you can fly some routes within Europe on Korean Air, for example Vienna - Zurich. When I checked, they had a set price that didn't change. So it was attractive for short notice bookings. And you could use Niki (HG) to come back, or take a train - or sometimes you don't want to come back the same route anyway.
Oh, you could come back on Korea, via Seoul. If you are so inclined. :-)

The Changing Competitive Landscape
An analysis by Joseph Sparling
President - Air North, Yukon's Airline
Executive Summary
In late January WestJet announced plans to begin flying into Whitehorse starting in May 2012. This announcement has precipitated renewed discussions concerning the impact of mainline air carrier competition in small northern air markets.

An analysis by Joseph Sparling

Executive Summary
In late concerning the impact northern air markets.
I wish Sparling would have mentioned 4N's own lucrative activities in the captive resupply operations in Yukon 's north as well as 4N's charter activities in the southern market.
Air North can't cry for a protected scheduled market while its able to take cream in other market segments.
I'd like to see 4N scheduled services between the 3 southern bases, but he doesn't seem interested at all..

I am always suspicious of people who try to rationalize why they should have a monopoly.

Canada, as I have come to realize, is a country that does not like competition. There are tons of regulations and rules to prevent competition, and, generally speaking, the mindset often does not understand the benefits and importance of competition. That is, by no means, restricted to a certain company.
Sometimes Canadians wonder why prices in the urban regions of Canada are, on average, 25-30% higher than in the US. Then they ask the royal chamber known as Senate to form a committee to investigate. Nothing is heard about that ever again.

Has anyone taken this flight? Any reports?
Cheers,
Not until next week. What kind of report are you looking for?
Standard WS service. I believe no live TV on the northern half of the trip as it's outside satellite coverage.
The southbound flight is operated by the northbound crew that overnights. If the northbound flight is more than 30 minutes late(rare), the southbound flight needs to be delayed for crew rest.
www.flyairnorth.com price matches and has better service.

Super, let us know about the TV etc.....how is the flight handled on the ground...is it using a bridge or stairs, flight loads etc.
The average load factor on this route can't be much more than 50-60%.
60 passengers northbound tuesday night.
End of summer perhaps? Loads probably have dropped off with everybody back at school/work.

Tuesday's are the slowest day of the week at ANY airline. :)
CALGARY, Sept. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ - WestJet today announced August 2012 traffic results with an all-time record load factor of 88.9 per cent. Revenue passenger miles (RPMs), or traffic, increased 9.2 per cent year over year, and capacity, measured in available seat miles (ASMs), grew 2.3 per cent over the same period. The airline flew nearly 172,000 more guests this August compared to August of last year.
That is pretty good considering they added 8x a day Toronto-NYC from a standing start 2 months ago.
I don't know what all the worry at Air North is about. If they are as good as everyone says they are and everyone is as loyal to them as they say they are, what is the problem?
In any event, Westjet is discontinuing service for the winter at the end of October and is back mid May next summer! With only 100 jets, there's more money to be made flying south in the winter!
:)

Super, let us know about the TV etc.....how is the flight handled on the ground...is it using a bridge or stairs, flight loads etc.
On the ground in YXY about 25% of the channels worked. None worked during climb. About 75% worked during cruise. BNN never worked the entire trip. Including on the ground in YVR.
Flight is loaded with a long wheelchair accessible ramp....(outside.)
About 55 pax northbound, 87 southbound.
4N serves a hot sandwich and cheesecake.

That is similar to what I recall on their 737's (I stand corrected!).
They seem to be a very proud carrier from what I recall. Let's hope they stick around.
