Two British tourists were barred from entering America after joking on Twitter that they were going to 'destroy America' and 'dig up Marilyn Monroe'.

Leigh Van Bryan, 26, was handcuffed and kept under armed guard in a cell with Mexican drug dealers for 12 hours after landing in Los Angeles with pal Emily Bunting.

They are very unfortunate. There are loads of various activists travelling these days and communicating via Twitter I'm surprised they dont get picked up.

Couple of idiots, especially the guy, who seems clueless that a tweet like hits (which could have beens shared by many people) would cause problems. I wonder what REALLY was said during the interview (we have just his side).

Wrong title. They weren't arrested, they were denied entry because their stated purpose for the visit was to get passing-out drunk and raise hell.

Better than for them to ACTUALLY get arrested for drunk and disorderly and enjoy the tender mercies of fellow inmates at LA County jail.

Please follow this in the existing thread in the Travel Safety/Security > Checkpoints and Borders Policy Debate Forum, as it is not pertinent to Los Angeles.

Thread: Be careful what you Tweet (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/checkpoints-borders-policy-debate/1308411-careful-what-you-tweet.html)

Thank you.
