Stupid question about refunds but....
If we don't fly, and even if its a cheap ticket with allowable changes etc etc, should we not get our taxes and fuel surcharges refunded since we don't fly?
Thanks

Makes too much sense for the airline industry

I believe some in Europe do, but subject to admin fees.
I think airlines would argue that taxes are rather like an input cost and it's not efficient to have a refund structure. They build into the ticket price the chance that someone won't fly. A bit like someone not checking luggage despite being entitled to or not using a lounge, possibly saving a third party charge to the airline.

Hong Kong too (Dragonair) (I'm waiting for a refund on a super-cheap non-refundable or amendable tix I didn't travel for personal reasons).

I spent 6 months last year hounding UA over this very issue, and ultimately prevailed, but not before filing a claim with the Illinois AG office. Once I got my claim in the system, UA (miraculously) started replying to my emails, and made me whole in short order.

Hi all,
Just thought i'd update everyone.
So, MAS told me that if anything they normally will refund the taxes and stuff.
