Here is a quick trip report for the Detroit Airport Hilton Garden Inn.

We picked this HGI over the other airport Hilton based on some negative reviews on Travelocity. Basically, no one had anything bad to say about this property so we tried it out.

Overall, the experience was good. No lounge but we got coupons for bottles of water and breakfast coupons.

The breakfast coupons was for a free continental and $2 more for the 'full American.' The continental breakfast was nothing great. Fruit selection was rather poor but there were bread products available.

The full breakfast had hash browns, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, etc on a buffet. The stuff out looked pretty bad but what was nice was that there was a cook that would make you a made-to-order breakfast.

The suite was only $20/more so I just ended up paying for it. There was no door between the bedroom and the sitting area which seemed poor.

The desk was nice. There was a good deal of power outlets. Free high-speed internet.

I'm a non-smoker and generally annoyed by smoking smells. The bathroom seemed to share a common vent with smoking rooms as it seemed that (at least in the morning) there was a cigarette smell in the bathroom.

The hotel is also on the direct landing path of some runway at DTW. At first, I thought the sound proofing was rather poor as I could actually hear the planes. Then, I saw what was landing overhead and decided the sound proofing was actually quite good.

The HVAC in the bedroom blew directly on the bed. However, you could close that vent and just have the vent in the sitting room blowing if you wanted.

The final negative is that there seemed to be a bunch of flies clustered by the window. It was cold out so they weren't moving around much and I would likely not have noticed if I left the curtains closed.

Other than that, the rooms seemed clean and appeared to be fairly new.

I wouldn't be against staying there again. However, it wasn't good enough to keep me from wanting to check out other hotels in the area next time I'm there.
