Have to do a couple of flights in US next month and have a couple of Q's regarding our skyteam agreement
a) Is there any chance of an upgrade on domestic flights or is that only for DL ff? Have a flight where Y is 130$ and F is 540$ and prefer for those prices to book Y...
b) When I book in Y and go to seat selection can I pick the "prefered" seating on the web?
c) Free luggage on Y correct?
Many thanks^

No chance of upgrade, don't waste money on continental F. You can select preferred seats (and it works absolutely great!) and have free luggage.
IF they do not understand/know that you have free luggage (it happened to me) don't quarrel too much, pay with a credit card and call Delta's hotline (you can use the phones right at the airport) to get it credited back.

Great advice as always thanks!!!
Made reservation - all pretty easy.
You can pick seat during booking process but it doesn't recognise you as "elite plus" as you aren't logged in
Pay for the ticket THEN change your seat and hey pronto you can pick the whole plane.. On a 757 and picked exit seat rather than front row of Y as you are next to the lavatories..
Thanks for the advice on the bags but I THINK that as an amex plat I get a free bag with DL anyways so pretty unlikely that I will have to stump up cash
Normally fly AA - been a while since last DL flight so I'm curious...^

The exit seats are great.
AA is so awful. How can you tolerate it? I flew it in First and it was good, but in coach it's really ....... I would take DL over AA any day.

Y on AA 762 / 763 and domestic 777's is great
Good thing about AA is that they also have J on their 762's that ply LAX / SFO - JFK and that is a great way to travel, and there is also J on MIA - LAX which is plyed by a 777 once a day
Y on 738's and 757's to be avoided but domestic F on 757's is very good
Just been on a couple of 757's F day flights and enjoyed^

DL is better than AA, as more planes equipped with WiFi and personal entertainment systems for domestic.
AA catering is better in Y than DL international in my opinion.
As far as AA, it is efficient. They are polite, but Delta FA's are better in my opinion. Atlanta is better hub for connection over MIA or JFK or LAX any day. Cannot comment regarding DFW, never been to Texas.
When things do not go well in AA, they usually there to help, unless it is weather related. Then they will just book you on the next flight.

I'm on the flight now - direct with the onboard wifi that I decided to buy for a 'special' price of 6 bucks
Service excellent and having inflight TV (personal TV) is excellent...
Check in no problem for luggage. They recognised ST elite + status - all well

At least our miles have value and aren't constantly devalued.

Sure, the trouble is that you have to fly in a very bad (intercontinental) product to get them. And then you can spend them on that same bad product :D

I think the important question is why are you spending ANY international time on US based airlines? Even Air Canada is now charging for drinks on international flights. When I fly LHR-HNL, I fly through ICN or NRT to avoid dealing with any of that crap. And when I go from LHR to mainland US, it is always Lufty, Swiss, SAS, ANZ, SQ, or AC. I mean, I just can't see any reason to fly with the US carriers outside of domestic US flights. Although will admit that LH has worse C than even most US airlines, and would NEVER waste the money for it.
