As reward use increases and prices slowly increase, use of free basic ammenities are decreasing as well.
I love the Resort Fees many resorts like Hilton include. The current ammenities included are:
free Local calls
Use of the safe
Payment via credit card
Daily paper
free inroom coffee
Non-Valet Parking
Tennis facilities.
Ammenities soon to be included:
Daily TV use
Use of the Balcony
Flushing of the Toilet
Bedding
Soap, Shampoo, and Toilet paper.
The way things are heading, the room fee and tax will cover the square footage and electricity. EVERYTHING else will be more money over the room rate.
We travel 10 times a year and it is clear that the ammenities are decreasing down while the price goes up.

Why are you so critical of the HHW and HWV? An axe to grind? What are your motives?
Any positive experiences?
You are on a free stay vacation -- RELAX.

What I hate is that one can't assert one's rights nor object to others' out-of-line practices anymore without being accused of 'whining.'
When I was a kid, whining referred to the tone of voice.
To me as an adult, whining is constant complaining about something to which one is not entitled in the first place or about which one is too lazy to do something.

I wouldn't count on that. Don't you remember the electricity surcharge?
Your posts are pretty amusing, BTW. If people want to read real whining there are numerous other posts around that are far better examples.

As a littleleague dad and coach, I have heard many left fielders asking why they can't pitch. Usually, it is because they are unprepared, but it doesn't stop the whining.

wow, more stir.
We spend so much time in the pool, and doing everything else, it seems easy to poke fun. But seriosuly, we don't really care too much. It's purely money to blow and half of it is paid for in points.
We do FlyerTalk in our leisure time, like traveling and sampling Hiltons. As for wifey, she gets a kick out of the replies as we read together. As long as a few people see the humor, that's all that matters I guess.
Because we travel so much and this is our main source of fun, we understand why people who don't get to travel as much call this whining.
We are enjoying oursleves and having a great time.

I find Paul GQ's posts funny - I think I don't agree with everything, but I also think that some people seem to fail to see that a lot of the "whining" is said with a little http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif. And the point Paul GQ is making with this thread is a valid one.

I consider calling someone a "whiner" -- even if they really ARE one -- to be a kind of flaming.
Anyhow, the information -- whether presented in a "whiny" or "humorous" or even "serious" tone -- can be useful to others.
So quit whining about the whiners! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Does this extend to those whining about those whining about the whiners?? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif This could go on forever. Maybe the moderator could close this thread or maybe the thread can be redeemed.
Those resort fees do not make me happy either, but I ponied up $9 a day for 3 days to get more than one family of guests into Hilton Squaw Peak last winter. It was worth it to me especially on a TEEN when the six day bill totalled less than $300. otoh, while I always take the daily newspaper, I could deduct 5o cents from my bill and just pick one up in the lobby, but boy would I feel cheap doing that.

Fulfliing my role as moderator, let's get back on topic.
I found it interesting that HHV kicks everyone out of the pool every day around 5:30 (or 30 minutes before sunset.)
This is so they can charge $7 to each person who wants to sit around the pool to watch their sunset torch lighting ceremony.
What are they thinking?
My trip reports with the positive sides of our stay fill follow later. We are en route to the artic pack ice to play with the polar bears.

I am disappointed in almost everyone's posts on this topic -
it's fine to have complaints about whatever issues you see fit, but when that's ALL that's posted i think it's hard to take seriously.
Calling names doesn't help.
I've emailed several off line -
please keep it to business at hand and without insults!

Yes, I did a search - I found a thread about Starwood, which doesn't award points on resort fees (here (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=340037)), but nothing on Hilton.
I've just noticed it after coming back from PR where two Hilton properties have resort fees of, respectively, 8% (Embassy Suites) and 10% (Caribe Hilton) of the base room rate. And this is PR in the winter, so the base rate was nothing to sneeze at. All told I probably earned at least 1,500 HHonors points just on the resort fees.
Now, the language in the SPG T&C which was posted on that other thread appears to clarify that under SPG rules, resort fees are not a point-eligible item. That may be frustrating, but it is clearly stated. However, the HHonors T&C have pretty expansive language - basically, anything on the bill, other than tax, looks like it SHOULD earn points.
My questions for the group are:
1. Is your experience the same as mine?
2. Have you had any luck getting credited for resort fee by working with HHonors Customer Service?
Thanks.

Are you actually "from Hilton" as your handle implies? Does that mean you are a HHonors employee? (As opposed to, say, the night auditor at the Hampton Inn in Vinita, OK? :))
If so, how do I go about getting the points? Do I have to submit my bills to Customer Service? Why can't they post automatically like everything else?
Thanks!

Interesting. As I have never redeemed points from HHonors, I didn't know that.
Also seems kind of odd that I can earn points for restaurant meals on an award stay but not on a Priceline stay, but then again, I don't make the rules!

I have an upcoming stay at Embassy Suites in San Juan, Puerto Rico. There is a 14% resort fee for standard reservation. Do they charge the same fee on an award reservation, if so what rate do they base it on ?.

They're not supposed to. If they try it, stop them politely. Call Hilton national and verify, so that when you are there you can point out that you were already told there would be no resort fee with your award booking.
