A past thread addressed the question of using old reward chart certificates on reservations made after June 1, 2003 and consumed before June 1, 2004:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum57/HTML/007351.html

Essentially, that conclusion was that it is allowed and the hotel must honor them despite what cateogry they became after June 1. But assuming a post-June 1 world, what if a hotel increases a reward level between the time a reservation is made and the time a reservation is consumed? Will that hotel only take certificates for the new reward level? This happened to me (see my thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum57/HTML/008795.html) and the diamond desk issued me an old reward chart certificate since I made my reservation in April. But what if I had made my reservation after June 1, what is the protocol? This has to have happened to someone else and I am sure people would like to know if they will have to cough up the extra points or not....

This question is also assuming you didn't order your certificate at the time of booking and you are ordering your certificate after the category has changed.

My understanding about the "confusing" HHonors rewards this yr (due to their structure change) are:

1. Old reward - If you want to use a old reward cert., you must redeem one before 5/31 (per diamond desk). To make things simple, you should have a reservation too. However, it is not required (per Adam's message).

2. Category change - Since we don't have to redeem the reward cert. the same time we made reservation, we could make a reservation and then the category change before we redeem the cert? Well, not sure it's answer but i have always asked HHonors rep to put the reward code needed in my reservation and email me a copy. So, the hotel can see when I reserved the room and what reward code it was when I booked it.

So, my 2cents for wahoo99, I think except the case for old rewards, you should be able to redeem reward based on the category you were booked under (hopefully it's noted in the reservation) when you made the reservation. But, I totally agree w/ you on this confusion about HHonors award. I too think Starwood's sytem is better (Just take the points from account the time of booking and avoid any question/problem, and plus prevent people to make multi-reservation as well). Sorry to hear about your situation.

OK, I'm going to say right up front that I must be really dense, because I am STILL confused about the changes. I've searched and read and read thread after thread and still can't get it. Here's my specific issue/question.

I ordered a GLON before the June deadline. OK, so far but what confuses me is the category changes. We went from the letter system to the number system. However, the website still says that a GLONP is only good at Premium properties. OK, I understand this except what is a "Premium" property now? Is it only the 6 properties or is it also the 5s? Can I use a GLON for the following or do they require a GLONP (I'm using the nomenclature Old Cat-New Cat here)?
It's easy to see a P-6 is a NO but what about a P-5 or a C-6 or really anything X-6?

Feel free to to call me a dummy but please give me some insight with the insult!! Thanks.

What it should say now, that GLONP2 is required for Category 6 properties, and GLON2 for all other categories.

I can't believe that Hilton's web folks did not fix this already!

Thank you, Eugene. I also thought Hilton should have changed it, but it still says "Premium" without spelling out what that is in their new number system. I also went back and reread the thread mentioned above once again, and I believe I finally got an answer to my own question. It looks like I should be able to use a GLON for any combination except P-6. Sorry about wasting bandwidth.
